Did your bridesmaids stand or sit at during your wedding ceremony?
I assumed I would have them sit, since the ceremony will be about 30 mins long.
My mother says this is never done and that they have to stand.
Also: we have seating in the round (more or less) and I can't see where the BM's would stand without blocking people.
Also: I should note that I am noting being married in a church, but rather in a hotel. Though this is a Jewish wedding, I checked there are no 'rules' on this, only traditions.
The BMs and the guests sit and stand whenever the bride and groom sit or stand up. The MOH and best man do the same except they are on the altar with you.

In a Jewish wedding the Bride and groom stand the whole time -- so I don't think this is the same.

Re: What BMs do at the ceremony?
I think it all depends on the denomination or religion. At my wedding (Episcopal), the entire bridal party stood at the alter with me but in most Catholic ceremonies, its only the MOH and BM standing al the alter with the B&G. I've been to a Jewish cermemony where the B&G, MOH, BM and both set of parents stood the entire cermony.

depends on the type of ceremony you're having. the way my church was set up i assumed that they would be standing, but when i met with the priest yesterday, he told me that he will have chairs set up on each side of the sanctuary for the bridal party to sit. i think it really can be up to you otherwise...

When I was a BM I sat during the ceremony.. I think back a long time ago when I was a Jr.BM we stood the whole time.. THe one we sat in was Catholic, the one we stood in was Jewish. Mine is non-demoninational, I haven't even thought about what the BMs are going to do.

Re: What BMs do at the ceremony?
When my sister got married, the BMs sat in the front pew of the church. Only myself and my other sister (also a MOH) stood up on the altar with my sister. Even then, we had chairs set up so that we could sit during the appropriate times during the ceremony. On the other hand, when I have been to Greek Orthodox ceremonies on my FH side of the family, the entire BP stood up for the entire ceremony.

I never thought of this. FH and I are catholic but having a non-denominational wedding. I always kind-of imagined them standing (in my little wedding fantasies )

We did the same at my wedding. It was at a Catholic Church. My BIL got married at a Lutheran Church and the entire bridal party stood on the altar. When I was a Jr. BM in my aunt's wedding years ago, the bridal party had to stand the whole time but, in front of the first pew.

I've been a BM in 2 jewish weddings - one I sat and the other I stood.
Neither of the brides made that decision though, the rabbis did.
ETA: In the wedding where I sat, they had set up chairs on either side of the chuppa for the bridal party. I'd ask someone at the hotel what they usually do.

My father is going to be the Rabbi and doesn't care either way.

We had ours stand for the first 2 minutes while the Pastor Greeted everyone and said a few opening words, and then when she asked everyone to greet the people around them, they sat.
I stood for my sisters wedding, and it was really torture on the feet.
Honestly, I think it's about the bride and the groom up there at that point, IMO.

Okay then, I guess that's out! In that case, I would call the place and ask what they normally do. Or you could go there with some friends. You should sit where the guests will be and have your friends stand off to the side of the chuppa and decide for yourself if they really block the view or not ~ I'm guessing they won't since the focus will be in the middle on you and FH, but who knows.
If it helps any, the wedding where I stood as a BM was a much more traditional ceremony than the one where I sat. The bride in the latter wedding didn't even know she was supposed to have a solid gold wedding band until the morning of the wedding.
