I checked into What to Expect when your Expecting. But that had a lot of bad reviews on Amazon.
What else is there?
What do you recommend?
TIA

i second both of these!

Girlfriend's Guide is hilarious and i found What to Expect very informative. I use it practically every week to look up a new symptom. I don't know why it would get a bad review...

The first book I got was 'what to expect'

Earlier this week I got 'a girlfriends guide to pregnancy' which is pretty funny. I also got 'Great Expectations: Your All-in-One Resource for Pregnancy & Childbirth'
by Sandy Jones and Marcie Jones. I really liked this one bc it does a week-by-week and is organized pretty well.

I like your pregnancy week by week book betterthan what to expect.

Girlfriends guide is a good fun read. I use Bbay Center online for some reading. I also have a birth book which I am just starting to read as I get closer to that step. Baby Bargains is good for registering - although take it with a grain of salt too because it seems very geared to bargains - and somethings only get bad reviews (like my crib) because they are pricey alternatives. But it does have some info on thing sto look for in products.

I also read the same thing about what to expect. So I bought Your Pregnancy Week by Week by Dr. Glade Curtis. It is good and I look forward to reading it each week. A friend also gave me A girlfriends guide which is so funny. I recommend both of these.

I hate the What to Expect series...
A Thinking Women's Guide to a Better Birth
A Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy
Working Mother/Nursing Mother
Misconceptions by Naomi Wolf
A Nursing Mother's Companion Guide

I, personally, liked the Week-by-week guide the best. I wasn't crazy over the What to Expect....

I also got Pregnancy Sucks. It's written by a woman who recently had a baby and a doctor. She tells you about all the things most books don't and tells you the truth, even if it's unpleasant. She makes it funny. I have to say I was surprised by some of those things - I had no idea.

I'm sure these are mentioned in other books, but I like the funny way it's presented in this one. You also may have been aware of these things already but they were all news to me:
- all the things that are no-no's (jacuzzis, bikini waxes in the 1st trimester, electric blankets)
- the fact you may start to drool for no reason
- that you can develop a 3rd (or 4th or 5th etc) nipple during your pregnancy
- your abdominal muscles don't stretch to accomodate the baby, they tear. And if you get a c-section, you may be able to have your doctor stitch up the tear while he's in there.
- you can get spider veins, varicose veins, skin tags and something called PUPP (itchy skin bumps all over)

I'm not done with the book yet but it has made me laugh quite a few times.
