When FH and I went to pick tuxes we thought he would wear black tux with black vest. When I went with my dad today for his tux, the guy there said the groom usually wears a silver or white tux to match the dress. He said it couldnt easily be changed. So, what color vest is your FH wearing?

I used to work at a tuxedo store. You def want the groom to complement what you are wearing since most of the photos are of the two of you together. If your dress is white, you usually match the groom in white vest/tie or platinum (silver) vest and tie with black jacket. Black vest/tie is nice too, very formal and good for sat night wedding. If your dress is ivory then you put him in ivory vest/tie or blakc vest/tie with black tux. If your dress is ivory, you don't want to put him in white because the contrast will make your dress look very yellow or old!
