What did you do during the summer as a kid?

DH and I were just talking about this.

I went to camp every summer. Day camp when I was younger, and sleep away starting when I was 10 even though I HATED it. Very traumatic!

Dh, who grew up in Buffalo, spent every summer at a cottage his parents owned on a lake. He has such wonderful memories of this time.

He always jokes that my parents wanted to get rid of us (my brother and I) during the summer.

My parents used to make me go to Bible School which was kind of like a day camp. I hated it!! Other than that I would make friends with the kids in the neighborhood who had pools and mooch off them all summer!

Hang around and do not much of anything. My mom would take us to the zoo, the beach, museums, and stuff. And we always went somewhere on vacation even if it meant piling into the car and driving there. They were very relaxing but not very exciting summers.

i went to day camp and swimming lessons. when i got home i would just play with friends, go in my pool and on the slip and slide. i also went to the beach a lot and adventure land.

We always went on one big vacation (usually Disney World) and 1 small vacation (usually Montauk) every summer.
The rest of the time I played in my neighborhood, went to the beach, in my pool... had fun, lazy, summers!

floated in the pool, laid in the shade and waited for the ice cream man.

Day camp, then music day camp when I hit Jr. High and High School. I have fond memories of music camp. We had so much fun!!

Day camp when I was younger, but since my dad was a teacher, he would work at the camp too, so we would get to spend time with him, plus we got to go for free if he worked for free. I remember thinking how lucky I was to have a dad who would do that for me and my sister.
When I got older, I went to performing arts camp at USDAN. I hated that because I wanted to hang out with my friends at that point.

I was and still am a typical queens girl. We were always stoop sitters. Sitting outside till like 3 in the morning every night with about 59892547 kids running around, block parties, manhunt, tag, always getting mr softees..wiffle ball games in the street, late night runs for gyros...it was awesome!

We never took big vacations cause my dad was a cop then detective and had crazy schedules with no time off...we would always go to the catskills for a couple of days to relax in a pool and that to us was heaven. I loved my childhood summer days and I wouldnt have traded them in for big vacations for anything!

If I wasn't at the town pool, I was in the library reading (yes, I was a big nerd!). As I got older, I had summer jobs at that same town pool - I used to work in the concession stand!

I went to day camp for several years, which I loved. Horseback riding, archery, trips swimming etc. That was til I was 10. After that there were so many kids in my family that our biggest vacations were camping vacations, usually in the northeast somewhere. Other than that it was hanging at the pool and playing with all the kids on our block. When I was 15 I started lifeguarding at a town beach and did that every summer til I was 19.

Had pool parties and slumber parties!! It was so much fun!

Pool hopping from neighbor to neighbor's yard, man hunt games at night.

My sister, brother, and I would play outside with our friends or go to my grandmother's house (when my dad had to work the day shift) and play in her pool and play with our friends. God, I miss running around and playing in the pool. We also had lots of BBQs!

The one nice thing about being a teacher is having the summers off. Every summer I get invited to go to FI's aunt's and uncle's house to relax by the pool. I'm definitely taking up their offer this summer!

We went up to East Durham in the Catskills! (It's an all Irish town) We'd go for a week every summer. LOVED IT!! (I still like to go up there)

And of course if we were in Queens the kids on the block would be playing kick the can, baseball, soccor, skelli, You name it we played it!!! Those were the good ole' days!!

i was deprived of going to camp... We use to have pool membership so I used that alot

Went to IHM summer camp from the time I was 4-10, after that I always used my friends pool. WHen I was 14, I got my first job abd I have worked every summer since.

Both my parents were teachers so summers they had off...VACATION for like a month every year.
the rest of the time,,swimming in the pool, playing kickball with the neighborhood kids, waiting for the ice cream man, sleepovers, BBQs. Gosh those were the days of carefree fun.
