FH and I are moving into our new house the beginning of August. We want to have a big party with family and friends Labor Day weekend, one of those days...
we never had an engagement party- but some of my family gave us presents....
It would be a housewarming type party
and it is days before my mom's birthday
I want it to have a theme...maybe a hawaiian luau, or something else... any ideas????
My question is do I call the party an engagement party???? Housewarming party????just a Labor Day BBQ???? a bday party for my mom??? OTHER???
I want to begin on invites, BUT i dont know what to call this party! Any help would be appreciated

Re: What do I call my party???
Well do you want people to bring you gifts?? B/c if they come for an engagement party, or housewarming party i'm sure they won't come empty handed unless you say 'no gifts please'........it depends on what you want?

Re: What do I call my party???
maybe this will help..
The purpose of the party would be a housewarming, because we want people to see our new home....but FH wants to call it a housewarming/engagement party ...I dont like how that sounds, especially since some of my family gave presents already, i dont think it would be right to have an engagement party-I want it to have a theme, and i will have a cake for my mom too
i am so confused with what to do

Re: What do I call my party???
Well, first off either way you can have a cake for your mom...you dont even have to tell people you are doing it for her bday unless you want them to bring something, but if not then just include her bday into the party.
When I had my engagement party, people that gave us a gift when we first got engagement didn't come w/ anything, which was fine bc they gave us a gift already.
You could do the hawaiian luau theme, get invitations that go w/ the theme and you can include that it's a housewarming party or you can even get an invitation for a housewarming, i'm sure they have something for a new home...and people will think the party, is a party for the new place

Re: What do I call my party???
I luau is always safe, depending on the crowd you will have...
I went to a cool outdoor party last year....it was in the evening..started around 6PM...it was an asian theme. The backyard was decorated with Chinese lanterns ..she had horsdevors from a chinese place...egg rolls, dumplings etc....you can always mix in some sushi too! She also had a fun bar set up with diff. flavored martini's...
We had fun and everyone was saying how diff. it was....
it was really cute...the lanterns looked so nice in the dark... they were something like this (found these on target.com):

Great minds think alike!!! I was going to say the same thing!!!!!
