Hey ladies. hope you all had an enjoyable weekend.
I have a 'problem' with my seating arrangements.
basically it comes down to this- we invited MORE people from fh's side, but LESS people are coming from his side, almost a 60/40 split.
we are just BARELY making our minimum (104). 'my' side of the room, the tables are ok, with 10-12 people at each table.
fh's side is a disaster at the moment. head table has 11, which is fine, but the rest have bet. 6-9
I am trying really hard to keep people together, and I can't really combine any tables, b/c then one would be too full, but does having such large tables with only 6 people at them look ridiculous...and will the people feel weird...especially given that the tables across the room will be full...
this makes me feel badly. I don't know what to do.

I would spread out the tables so that you have AT LEAST 8 people per table. Since you're just about or under meeting your minimum, you have more room for more tables, and can spread people out.

I see what you are saying, but spreading people out will break up 'groups' and I don't feel right having one or two people gazing wistfully at the table next to them, where the rest of 'their' people are....
this suks. I am really disliking fh's NO's right now.

Do they have smaller tables you can use? Maybe if you had alternating smaller tables it wouldn't look too bad.... Just an idea....

I broke up groups for our table arrangements. During the reception, I'm sure the 'stragglers' will mosey on to other tables....we usually do when we attend functions where they separate us from our 'peoples'....

jess...i will be honest with you... i sat at a 6 person table once, and honestly felt like a looser...it just felt embaressing...
edited to say that we were at a 6 and the rest were 8+
is there anyway you can combine some and then put one of your friends/ or work tables on his side?? i've been to weddings where they completely mixed both sides..it was actually nice...just the parents and immediate family were are on their own side.
good luck sweetie, it will all work out!!!

Steph, thank you so much for your honesty! this is what I thought, and what I was afraid of.
I have to figure something out.

Is there anyway that maybe you can move some of your people to his side (smaller groups of family/friends). Or can you use smaller table and alternate. At my cousin's wedding there were only FOUR of us at a table at it was very embarrassing. We felt like outcasts, but from what I understand alot of people didn't show up that were 'supposed' to sit with us. I know it's hard but try to have at least 8 people at each table. That's our minimum per table. Our tables are crazy, they go from 8 - 13. It's so hard. Good luck sweetie.

I mixed tables-I had to -11 people didn't show last minute. It was fine and better than having a table of 6!

oh and Jess...just wnated to let you know...I'm not doing 'groom's family on the right' 'brides' family on the left' - I'm alternating tables to mix everyone in, but keeping the 'groups' at the table. Besides...I hope that everyone is on the dancefloor the entire night!

Exactly what I am doing since my side is much smaller. No one will care which side they are sitting on....

Jess, John and I alternated who sat where. There was no bride or groom side. Could you try doing this?

What about doing larger tables and dont seperate the bride and grooms side. Just mix the tables between the room.
