about cast iron skillets?

FH really wants one and i'm usually good about scouting out the best quality and price but i dont know anything about these.

how much should one cost and does anything make one good/bad?

I got mine from Le Creuset the quality is great and I think its about a 100 at most stores or so but if you goto the Le Creuset store at the outlets a lot of times they are on sale

A friend got me this one for a shower gift from Crate & Barrel and it is FABULOUS -- I wasn't even registered there, but she had gotten one a few years ago at her shower and said it's one of her favorite kitchen items.

(I don't have the panini press thingy, just the skillet.)

It's $33 and I think it's a good deal. We have a flat cast iron skillet too that I use to cook fish in (you heat it on the stove then put it in the oven so the smoke doesn't get everywhere in the house) but I find it to be pretty crappy (DH got it before we were married) -- it rusts way too easily and is very difficult to clean. I'm sorry but I don't know what brand that one is. The crate & barrel one is really wonderful, though.

HTH!

(As you can see... I'm kinda all about the kitchen wares...)

from what i was reading, cast iron is cast iron and you shouldn't spend more than $25 for a 12' skillet. (i was confused as to why some were so $$ and some weren't so i decided to research)
