what do i use as far as currency to travel

fh and i are tryin to figure out what is the best option as far as money while we are away. We have never traveled out of the country. We were thinking about the amrican express travel cheque card. Has anyone used this. We are sooooo nervous and confused. Need some guidance we leave in 5 days. THanks!!

Where are you going? I've been out of the country quite a few times and I've never bought traveler's checks. They're a little outdated these days, and you might even have trouble using them. Of course it depends where you're going. The easiest thing to do is get to your destination and take some money out with your ATM card or credit card in the local currency. You frequently get the best rate from your own bank. Charge most things. Unless you're going someplace remote, you can use Visa or AMEX pretty much anywhere in the world. Do you have a travel agent? Ask him or her what to do, and do some Internet research. You don't have much time.

Good luck!

Yes where are you going? It is best to always have their local currency in cash for cabs and little things like that but the majority of purchases are done with your credit card. All you do is call your CC Company and tell them you will be in this country on these days and for them not to block the charges b/c theyll think its fraud. Then youre all set.

The easiest thing to do is to use ATMs wherever you are.
Depending on where your going, relying on credit card isn't the best idea because alot of places might not accept them, so you'll definitely want to have enough cash on hand.

We used American money cash and our ATM cards in Aruba and had no problem.
