What do they do to you at your first prenal visit?
I have to go back in two weeks...the doctor said she wanted to run some tests and send me for lab work....My appointment on Tuesday was just to confirm I was preggo....so are they going to stick me with thousands of needles? I'm nervous!

Yeah they draw about 5 viles of blood. They test for HIV, blood type and a bunch of other things. If they didnt do a PAP then you get one and if your lucky you get to see the baby again. It stinks but its all worth it.

How long does it take to get the results of everything? Do you have to wait for your next visit?

My doc's office told me if they don't call me everything is fine. I usually give them a week and then I call JUST to make sure The only test I waited on was the AFP which is done around 15 weeks and that I waited for my next appointment... normally I do not have the patience. That's what they're there for to answer your questions, so don't be afraid to call them!
ETS - it's not 10000 of needles, lol, it's just one that draws a lot of blood... it's not so bad, don't worry, I HATE giving blood and I made it through... just think about the baby inside and it's all worth it!

Yes, as long as all is ok dont expect a phone call. My doc went through my chart after my bloodwork and said yep, yep, yep all good. They had my 12 wk screening back with in 3 days and I get the results of my AFP on the 19th

I BELIEVE it stands for Alphafeto Protein... oh geez, don't quote me on that, but that test, tests for Spina Bifida and Down Syndrome, usually done around the 12-15 week mark...
I just checked WebMd, I am correct with what it stands for...

Yes, Its alpha fetal protein, It test for DS and spinal bifida and one other thing... trisomy 18 maybe... its done between 16-18 weeks and its just a blood test, an OPTIONAL blood test.

I am the biggest wimp with needles and drawing blood and I was fine. I just never looked at what they where doing! For Some reason it was all different it was like hey this is for my baby!! I can do this!

I practically squeeze DH's hand off when they are taking blood. The nurses all laugh at me
