Re: what do we think about....

the one thing that makes me go is that i thought these places (maybe not AIG, dont know much about them) made tons of money by taking big risks, and now it came back to get them.... if they get bailed out its almost like there are no consequences, but if they dont it really hurts so many people

its just frustrating to think how the higher ups at Lehman etc made millions and millions in the past few years

Since teh tax money I paid is bailing them out...I want a stake in the company now! Our government *****! AIG got themselves into this mess, they should get themselves out!

if the government bails AIG or any other banks out, taxes have to go up...where do you think the money will come from? this sux!!!!

that is why the tax lope holes in this country for big companies really needs to be evaluated. Just like the big banking/mortgage companies need to start taking responsibility for their risky business policies.

I have mixed views on this
One one side i think it was great bc not only were alot of jobs going to be gone but most of our 401k's are somehow linked to AIG stocks so we would have lost money anyway.
I dont agree with it bc how the heck is AIG supposed to pay back and 85 BILLION loan? They have a whole lot of rebudgetting to do and I think besides our taxes getting increased to pay for this 'favor' from the government AIG policies will also increase as well. I also dont see how they wont have massive layoff's to aliviate some of their operational expenses.

exactly, you're screwed either way. Whether they would've gone bankrupt it would've effected you, and now that the gov't is bailing them out it will still effect us.

Totally agree..either way we're affected. I do believe it would've been more catastrophic had they not been bailed out, unlike banks..AIG is an Insurance company which would touch all walks of life on a greater scale.

excellent points here and I totally agree. It seems like the bail out was slightly the lesser of two evils- but I guess we will see

Yeah and so many people would be outta jobs. They had over 110,000 employees. Can you imagine what the would do. All those people would be fighting to get new jobs cause there aren't that many out there.

I'm ok with it since alot of people have money in AIG and if they did not bail them out we would be in big trouble

Well, we know all own a tiny piece of it! This whole economy is a mess. I wonder if there are people still alive that lived through the great depression (I mean as adults) and what they think about what's happening now.

All of this is just so scary..what is more scary is that the day this was happening McCain said 'the economy is fundamentally sound' this is what Hoover said in 1929 right before the depression......god help us
