Okay, brutal honesty? I like his shots, but not his post-processing. He uses a lot of effects. But this is easy to fix, I would ask him to go easy on some of the special effects (my personal opinion is that it takes away from the beauty of what really happened, but you may feel differently).
On the other hand, his price is insane and he isn't gipping you on hours, which is important. Getting the rights is also a big deal. Overall, it seems great. Some of his pics are quite beautiful.
Is this the guy who is giving you a free e-shoot?

THIS. I would skip it.
Here's how I think.... $600 for Photos is just not enough. When the day is over, and everything is said and done.... what are you left with besides PHOTOS and the memories in your head? Can you maybe scrape money off another area, or decide to use some of your tax refund (usually can get it processed by March!) to go with a bit higher priced vendor?
Just thinking, sorry if that is too forward of a suggestion.... but IMO you should have great pics!

If you get the raw files, FH and I can probably handle the post-processing if your photographer retouches them and you don't like it.

He also seems sooo nice which is important.

I love really artsy pictures - so the effects dont bother me too much :)

Here is the only thing - I dont really love the higher priced photographers and cant really skimp more than I am now. We are depending on our tax return to pay for the honeymoon..

I think his personality is probably the most important thing. You always take better pics when you like the person behind the lens. Do you get an e-shoot?

umm.. i actually like his work.. and as long as you like his style.. i would go for it.. 600.00 bucks is a good price and then you can feel free to print what you want on your own budget and time.. i'm doing something very similar!

The guy who owns Benchwerk is a graphic designer. His work is very different. The only reason we didn't go with him was because we felt he did too much post work, so maybe you will really like them!
Don't get discouraged! I have seen pics of you, it won't be hard to make you look great no matter who you hire.

He is shooting two more weddings one at the end of August and one on Sept 3rd and he is going to send me all of those images to see too, so I can get more of an idea of his work
I love his picture of the flower girl and the b&w of the groom and the one of the rings, and the two of the bride haha... I guess I kinda dig this guys style.

Did you look into Gina Esposito? Her cheapest package I believe starts at $999 and her work is awesome.

haha I'd join you if I was anywhere near the right time zone In our apartment, we have a canon 1D Mk III, a 5D, a 40D, and all of FH's lenses/other camera gear from when he shot professionally. When people come over, all they want to do is play with the cameras!
Here are some more of his shots - I kinda love this guy - i have been emailing back and forth with him for an hour about music since he shot one of my faves - Matisyahu!
