I am posting under another name in case my friend reads this....
I got invited to a party with my DH and in the invite there was a little note that said 'a $25 contribution would be appreciated to offset the cost of the party.'
I find this to be very tacky!

ETA Sounds like one of those H.S. parties where they have the empty water cooler at the door for the 5.00 'donation' and then they hand u ure red cup party cup. But at least that was 5.00 not 25.00

Wow - that is odd! I can see people all chipping in or bringing a dish, etc. for an office holiday party or something, but a party that someone is hosting?!.....

$25 isn't to help offset the costs, it's a fundraiser! What is she serving? Lobster and Filet Mignon?
I am appalled...you can ask people to bring things (although I wouldn't even do that)
$25...what kind of party is this? If there are 10 guests = $250!!! I've never ever had a party cost me that much!!!!

My DH and his sister throw a big Halloween party every year. They hire a hall, get a DJ, and there's a lot of food for about 60+ guests. They give out cash prizes and other things for the Best Costume contest. It costs a lot of money every year, but everyone loves it and really enjoys themselves.
A few years ago it got to be too expensive to do every year, so they started charging 10.00 per person.
Last year they upped the price to 20.00. Personally, I think it's a little tacky myself. I can see maybe 10.00, since they do it every year and it's very expensive. But 20 seems like a little too much to me.
