Hi guys- What do you call your FIL? Have you begun to call them mom and dad yet? If not, do you plan on it and when will you begin?

this is kind of an issue for me... right now I use my usual method when I don't know what to call somebody... I just don't call them by name if I can help it.
for the future... I don't know. I think they are going to want me to call them mom and dad, and I just don't think I can feel comfortable with that. It just doesn't feel right. I have amazing parents, and I can't ever imagine calling anybody but them mom and dad.
on the other hand, if fh is calling my parents mom and dad, it wouldn't be right for me to not do the same for his parents. So, I don't know. We shall see.

I find it so uncomfortable too and I have somehow managed to adopt your method as well. I need to grow up and just do it though. I gues i'm just afraid of the reaction. I know it will make FH very happy.

naaa im kidding....i call her by her 1st name now...but thats bc my FI calls her that instead of mom...makes me nuts! i hate that he does it! But i do call her mom more and more

I have been calling them Mr. and Mrs. .... just because I have no idea what they want me to call them or if they would get offended by calling them by their first name. And of course FH has no clue either. I mean my parents dont' care if you call them by their first name or mom and dad. Why doesn't he know what his parents want to be called? So I'm going to avoid it for now, lol. I would rather call them by their first names than mom and dad though.

Let's see.......right now I go out of my way to call them nothing. Neither one of them has suggested calling them anything other than Mr. and Mrs.! I find this really weird b/c will I still be calling them Mr and Mrs after FH and I are married???

OMG, FMIL talked to me immediately after we got engaged to say that she has been waiting all this time to have me call her 'MOM'. This was one year ago and I still have a hard time. So now i wind up no adressing them by name since i feel awkward. I guess it'll be a little easier after the wedding.
However my problem is that I still call my stepdad by name and i feel bad calling FFIL 'Dad' if i cant even call me step father 'Dad'.

As of now I call them by their first names. Not sure if I'm going to call them mom and papi.

Me neither. I do need to get up the courage to find out what they want me to call them. I don't want to call them mom and dad yet b/c we aren't married yet. However FH SIL has taught her kids to call me Aunt LeShelle. Still very wierd, but I cant say anything.

MR and Mrs X or by their first names. My parents will be the only 'mom' and 'dad.' I don't have such a great relationship with the FILs

I was calling them Mr & Mrs but they have an issue with that - they want me to call them by there first names (I feel funny calling them by there first name) so I make a joke about it...
FMIL - Momma 'last name'
FFIL - Pop 'last name'
Actually FMIL is loving it - she signs all her cards to us Love Mom (Momma 'last name'

Me neither. I'm still thrown off when they say 'I love you.' I'm just not as emotional I guess. I have the FH on it though ... he's going to find out how I should address them.
And you're very lucky. I have a 5 year old niece who said she doesn't want to call FH Uncle - she's such a brat!

I dont know! Fh says after we get married were gonna start the mom and dad name-calling ... but I dont foresee him calling my mom and dad, mom and dad - and i dont think its fair for me to call his parents mom and dad when he doesnt call mine mom and dad. Soo soo hard!!!
Right now my fil's are on a no-name basis ... so funny - weve been together for 5 yrs, and I still cant call them by their name!

I call them Mom and Dad.. they asked me if I wanted to because they were signing all my cards as 'mom and dad' and they asked if I wouldn't mind calling them that becasue they love me like a daughter.. they are GREAT people!

its hard because i feel weird calling them anything...i don't call them by any sort of name but when i have too its their first names but i feel like that's rude..so i try not to do it...but FH's dad said i can call him dad...his mom didn't really say anything on the subject but i'm sure she wouldn't mind me calling her mom...i'm closer to them than i am my own parents...

FIL Passed away when we first started dating. When I talk about him I say dad. FMIL CRAZY!! I try not to call her anything because I might say a bad word. We dont get along. She does not like me (or any of her other daughter inlaws). She feels her sons should take care of her and only her. So any woman in her sons life is evil.
