FMIL is going to do her friends and where they are sitting, but that's it... I don't really mind because I don't know them anyway and I don't know where they would sit!

Yes! I let FMIL settle all her family- her brothers and work friends and that's it. We decided where FH's dad's side and all the cousins would go.
She actually started telling me what number she wanted each of her tables to have and she had tables 1-4 scattered around the entire room, she called it 'protocol'. This was at a point when I had zero patience left and i just said no.
