What do you do when you technically don't have 'ushers'?

What do you do when you technically don't have 'ushers'?

It just dawned on me as a very nice usher escorted me to my seat at Jen's wedding. I said to him, 'Geez, you're making me realize I have to get some ushers' and he joked that he'd give me his business card.

So I brought it up to FH when we were at dinner tonight, and he said it could be my 2 BILs. But I was planning on having them walk me down the aisle! FH has two best men, and that's it. My nephew, 10, is the only usher.

See, growing up I always thought if a guy was in the wedding party, he was an 'usher' but now I hear the word 'groomsman.' Is there a difference? Who should be escorting my mom down the aisle? My grandma? Could it also be my BILs even if they're walking me down the aisle?

I bet some of you will say- it's your wedding, you do it your way! but I'd love to hear your suggestions! TIA!

Technically the 'groomsmen' are ushers and they are to escort the mothers, grandmothers, ect. to thier seats. One of the reasons why the men stay behind until the moment they are needed. Now a days it dosen't really matter. To me, I say- put thier @sses to work! No dress fittings, shoe purchases, special undies, manicures, pedicures....Geez! Let them do something to earn thier free beer!

I am not having ushers. I want the aisle tied off till the BP walks down, I figure people can find a seat. All family has a man to walk them down the aisle. If that is what you consider an usher, then my brother and moms DH, that's it.

I am in a similar situation--FH has 2 best men, his brothers, and then just one other groomsman---FH said that his best men are supposed to stay with him in the front of the church before the ceremony--meaning, our 1 groomsman/usher is going to be VERY busy!

We used his groomsmen and not every guest was escorted in, people can seat themselves. The immediate family was escorted if they were alone.

we only have one groomsman... I guess I'll have him escort my mom to her seat... but if FHs 2 grandmas decide to come he will be one busy guy

We're only having one BM (no groomsmen), so FH asked two of his close friends to be ushers. Although they won't be a technical part of the wedding party, they were honored to help us out!

ETA: Here's what we're doing for the moms/grandmothers. I don't think it's the traditional way to do this, but who cares?

His mom: escorted by his dad
His stepgrandmother: escorted by his grandfather
My grandma: escorted by my cousin
My other grandma: escorted by my grandpa
My mom: escorted by my uncle
