What do you do with people who invite themselves?

What do you do with people who invite themselves?

There are a few people who seem to EXPECT an invitation. We simply don't have enough room. I don't know what to do.

What do you say to those people?

I continually said to the one person that kept inviting himself that he wasn't invited. One night in particular, he put his arm around a girl and said I found a date for your wedding. I said to him - first that assumes you are invited, which you are not, and second it assumes that even if you were invited, you would be invited with a guest, which since you're not invited at all, you're certainly not invited with guest. Put an end to that discussion.

i'm telling them that two federal officers are in my bridal party and they will be shot on sight.

Seriously, good question. I think we're just telling folks we can't afford to have everyone we want there, and that we hope they'll come to sheva brachot meals to celebrate with us. Apologetic, polite, but also obvious and firm.

Not sending them an invitation. People shouldn't just assume they are invited. I have been turning into a complete bridezilla recently. I've been putting my foot down about everything especially when I feel people are taking advantage of me.

Don't send them an invite. That should solve the problem.

relating this to an earlier thread, does putting your foot down in that situation make you a bride-zilla? this is your day, right?

You say, 'I'm sorry, I wish we could have invited more people, but we had to have a small wedding.' I keep having to say this to people, as it's true. It's a small wedding and we're paying for it ourselves. Anyone who argued past that--and people have, believe it or not--I pointed out that I'm only getting to invite 45 people, including all of my relatives, and I don't have a small family. That shut them up.

People are unbelievable, aren't they? I only invited my bosses from work. I've worked for them for eleven years and we're very friendly. I can't invite anyone else, but I've had to get into the 45 guest thing, believe it or not. 45 sounds like a lot, until I realized that just my immediate family, my parents, sister and brother and their kids are eleven people. Then there's aunts, uncles, cousins--and then I have friends, too! No room for coworkers.

ok well either donbt send an invite or being that they know when you are getting married just nicely explain that you wish you could have invited them but do to finances you just cant invite everyone and you had no choice but to cut your list down. hopefully that helps

I have come up with a response and have trained FH to answer with this response when people ask him if they are invited

'We really appreciate that you want to see us get married, You are more than welcome to come to the church ' Depending on the reaction to that, we may add, 'unfortunately we just can't have everyone at the reception' but saying they are welcome to the church i think implies that yeah, you'r enot coming to the party.

You can borrow my line: 'We just can't afford to invite everyone, we're trying to keep the guest list really small. But we'll have to go for dinner after the wedding!'

DH's friend called and asked when the wedding date was well in advance so he could purchase his ticket... we never intended to invite him but then did

I dont think it's right when people assume they're invited, especially with how expensive weddings are. I think if they're rude enough to tell you they expect to be there, I dont feel bad when they're embarassed by the fact that they are actually not invited! Hope that made sense!!

I get that a lot at work too, how do people just invite themselves, it's so rude!

I tell them I already have the guest list, I might be able to squeeze in a few more people but most probably not.

Just don't give them an invitation! Their are people who EXPECT to be invited to our wedding, but they will be really crushed come invitation time. Neither of us feel bad about it either weddings are too expensive and people just need to understand and respect that and get over it!!!
