What do you girls think-Rehersal Dinner (LONG)

What do you girls think?

My mother passed away about 6 years ago. My father remarried about 3 years ago, when I was 29 years old. His new wife has 4 children and they are all older then I am (some married with children other not)

Anyway, I was talking with my father and was discussing the Rehersal Dinner. There is an Irish bar/restaurant in Port Washington call Finn McCool where we are thinking of having RD. FI and I were thinking about 30 people.

I know it is traditional that the Grooms family pays for RD, but he is originally from Ireland and infact that is where his mother and family still live. He is the only one in his family that live in US. So needless to say we are going to pay for RD, which I completely understand..I'm just glad his family is coming to the wedding (that is a great expense).

My dilemma...I dont want to invite my 'stepbrothers and sisters'. I just want MY immediate family(I have two brother) and FI's immediate family. I dont want to have to explain who everyone is, especially since his family will never meet her kids again. Joan (Step-mother) has been very nice and has done much of the shopping and stuff with me for this wedding, but as my brother says 'we dont have to be the Brady Bunch'. I have only known these people for about 3-4 years and to tell you the truth I only really like two of her kids. The other two I couldn't care less if they didnt come to the wedding.

I'm just getting tired of always having to include these people in family stuff and to me they are not really my family, but people I have to deal with around the holidays. To me my family includes my dad and his wife, my two brother, my sister-in-law and niece and nephew. I dont even really want them in my wedding pictures, but I suppose I need to have one picture with them. Sorry to rant....

What do you all think??? My fathers solution to all this is that he will pay for the RD, but that isn't the point. I want it to be small and immediate family and Bridal party, that's it!

Would your step mother be insulted if her kids aren't invited?

I completely understand how you feel. My FH has a similar situation. I would discuss this with your father and tell him how you feel. Hopefully him and his wife will understand and keep the RD 'family only'.

Thats a tough one. I think I would invite them for your step-mother and father. You may not consider them family, but they do. Talk to them - if they're ok with it, leave them out.

I had plenty of family I didn't want in any pictures, but I took the pictures with everyone for my mom. Doesn't mean they'll make it in my album or on my walls

keep in mind we are also that this could add anywhere from $250 to 450 onto the RD bill.

I would say that if you dad really wants them there, then tell him to pay the extra money for them, since you wanted to keep it small.

As wierd as this may sound, I forgot that my FH has a half brother and half sister, that he gets along with, just doesn't see much and when we have talked about the RD guest lists, their name did not come up. So i don;t think they need to be invited if you don't want, but if FIL's said theynwated to invite them, I would be fine with it. (but they are paying)

I am in a similar situation. I am NOT inviting my step-brother and sister to the RD. I was not invited to theirs and I agree with you-- they are not your family. I have known of these people since I was 4 years old and they still are not my family. I do not like her kids, never have and never will. I know at her daughters wedding we did a picture of all of us but I have never seen that picture anywhere. I will not do that and I found a way to avoid that I am doing 90% of my picture before the wedding!

I was simply try to explain to her how you feel abou it being small and immediate family only.
