okay, so my brother is in the military (the navy)...he actually attends the united states naval acadamy in annapolis and we are all so proud of him! the question i have is.....he is going to be in the bridal party, should i have him wear his uniform?? i guess in special occasions like this they tend to wear their uniforms. my parents and sister of course think i should have him wear it (i feel like my parents will be upset if he dosnt, or think i am being selfish or something).....but i'm not sure if it will look funny and put all the attention on him instead of FH?? b/c he will automatically stand out in the ceremony and all the pics. i dont know what to do, or what is appropriate. i dont want to not have him wear it if he is SUPPOSED to. my brother has said it's okay with him either way, (but of course he will say that). any suggestions or opinions??? any one ever come accross a similar situation? hmmm i wonder if i can find a pic of him in his dress uniform to show u what it would look like....alright, well this is his regular uniform, his dress uniform is a little nicer looking.
he will kill me if he finds out i posted this, lol! so if u dont mind please dont quote me on here , this way i can try to remove the pic later. Thanks!

hmmmmmm.... in the end I would leave it up to him... he may not want to stand out like that ya know? There are a few miltary brides on here and well as wives of people in the military... I would ask them... I'll see if I can find who they are.

May God Bless Him!!! A Special Thank You to him for offering his services to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can totally understand how you feel. When he gets married he has the option to wear his dress uniform (they usually do) Why dont you have him wear the uniform to church or the ceremony and then change into a suit for the reception. Therefore you can make everyone happy and he can be comfy

Jen2999 (06) and AeroJenn (07) are military brides- there FH/DH is in the military
SoulMates422 (07) was (not sure if she's still active) in the military and is a vet and I think her FH is too....
I'm sure they can help you out in what is protocall but in the end it's up to you.

Hey Heather! I sent you an FH about this, but just in case, here's what I said.
Whether or not he should wear it is up to the Bride and Groom's request. Therefore, in general, he wouldnt show up to a wedding wearing his uniform unless he was specifically requested to do so by the bride and groom.
In my FH's experience, he has thought it was a bit uncomfortable to be the only guest wearing a uniform to a social (civilian) function. Also, if all the other groomsmen are civilians and wearing tuxes, your brother will stand out a lot. IMO, its the groom's day to shine and with your brother in uniform its going to take away from FH. I would say, unless their are other military guests wearing their uniforms, tell him to just wear a tux. HOWEVER....on his invitation, place card, and anything else that is 'addressed' he should be addressed by his full title regardless of whether he is in uniform or not. I have an entire etiquette book on this info, so if you ever have ANY questions (even if they seem stupid) feel free to FM me and I'll find the answer for you!
Good Luck and keep me updated as to what you decide =)

My friend wore his for a friend of mine. I've known guys not to wear it and get caught at the wedding by another officer. I'm sure it doesn't happen often though. As long as your FH doesn't feel opposed to it my opinion is that he should.

That's a tough decision. I can totally understand why he should wear it because being a part of the military is such a great honor. I can also understand why he shouldn't wear the uniform, because he would stick out. I think that you, FH, and your brother should all talk about it and see what you all agree on.

What do you mean 'get caught by another officer?' They aren't required in any way to wear it at social, civilian functions. They are 'authorized' to wear it, which only means that if they WANT to wear it, they can; but they arent required to or suppose to. Even if the bride and groom requests that a serviceman wear it, he's still not required to, although it is polite to abide by their request. If you want to check it, the regulation number on this is AR670-1 (this is for the Army, however other branches all have the same regulations on this but a different regulation number).
