this is my first year as a homeowner so i have no idea!

If I can find out their favorite adult beverage, I will give them a bottle, otherwise DH wants to give them each $20, not sure if that is considered to be enough tho.

We don't have anyone consistant in our neighborhood, so we are not leaving anything out for them.
But I know my parents used to run out and throw the guys like $10 each.

I think we gave the mail lady a $25 Amex gift check last year (she's nice & gives our dogs treats & plays with them).

I think we have the garbage dudes $20 cash (but somehow that seems low since there are like four on the truck )

GIVE A GOOD GIFT MY FH IS A SANITATION WORKER LOL


I DO NOT OWN A HOME YET (I STILL LIVE WITH MY PARENTS)
BUT MY DAD USUALLY GIVE THE SAN WORKERS 50 BUCK A PIECE
AND THE MAIL LADY 20 SHE IS NOT PLEASANT AT ALL AND VERY NASTY BUT HE FEELS HE HAS TO GIVE HER SOMETHING ANY WAY

Do people still do this a lot? I have never seen our mail person (and they kept pissing me off anyway cause they kept leaving mail for the old owners no matter how many times I wrote that they didn't live there anymore) but if it was a consistant person, I might want to give them something - would I just leave it in the box? And what do you do with the garbage man - I am never around when they come?

our garbage cans are behind the house and they come back there to pick up the trash...we were just going to leave $10 each for them (there are 2 guys). i hope thats enough! maybe for the mailman i will leave a gift card or something! i dont know! clueless!

I'm sorry...call me scrouge or something....why am I supposed to tip the garbage man and the mailman for doing their jobs???? Do I get a tip for doing my job?

$25.00 each usually.....

ETA: you are supposed to tip the garbage men and mailmen because there are times when they go above and beyond....like taking that big package to your door instead of leaving it on the curb....or taking that chair you are throwing out, and not making you call for special pickup...plus they keep an eye on the neighborhood because they are there everyday

yeah some of them do go above and beyond
itsjust a nice thing to do ..

the poor mailwomen had to deal with my dog trying to eat the mail when she put it in the mailbow lol

and the garbage men my parents are always throwing something out big things and they always take it

you will be suprised if you start tipping them how nice they will be . lol

You give them money, and a case of refreshments. Thats what we always do.

We are really poor this year, so the mailman will get $20 and the sanitation guys will get $20, if I can catch them. Last year I had a card all ready for them, but I could never catch them, they always come at different times. I wanted to leave it inside the garbage can right on top so when they took the lid off they would see it, but DH told me that was dumb and half the time it is dark out and they wouldn't see it. Guess he's right, but If I were a sanitation person around the holidays I would be careful in hopes of someone doing what I wanted to do!!
