Re: What is one of the great things about being a mommy?

For myself there is probably too much to list, but the joy comes way in the beginning when your child is in you tummy and you actually realize that you are producing the miracle of life.

Then when you finally meet your little one, you stare at her and say to yourself 'wow she was in my tummy' and I created that..

Then when the smiles come and she coos, it the most incredible feeling in the world knowing that she will always look up to you and you know that you have a big job ahead of you to guide this little person into being the best human being she can be.

She is only 9 weeks old and the best is yet to come..and I can't wait to savor every minute of it.

Re: What is one of the great things about being a mommy?

UGH..DIDja HAVE to get me STARTED on this one?????

Here goes the yapper

Well, I agree with Camille in that the first magic moments are when you have this little life growing inside of you. You are responsible for the comfort, nutrition and well being of this precious little person. Going to the Dr and seeing him/her on the sonogram....Its all the most amazing of experiences..

Then its giving birth, this little baby, breathing, eating, sucking, kicking, stretching, crying, pooping. You and your husband created this miracle, brought this person to your world...
Those little fingers, toes, that little tushie, its all 'yours'...

As they grow, and get to know who mommy and daddy are (pretty well!), they give you that FULL-HEARTED smile, the BELLY-LAUGH , they are the most uplifting sights and sounds to a mommy's eyes and ears..

As they start to REALLY communicate, with the babbling and little mannerisms, and they start to look like you or hubby more and more, there's this little guy, that actually looks like mommy or daddy as a baby, you created this precious child, thats your flesh and blood, and even has your mannerisms (and maybe silly habits! )

and even though we mommies need a break sometimes when they are too attached to our knees (or hips), we wont admit it all the time, but its a little RUSH when they CLING to your shoulder and REFUSE to go to anyone else..... There's something about YOUR arms, your grip, your warm touch and the smell and feel of mommy that is the most comforting thing on earth to this baby...

Those little arms around your neck can INSTANTLY fill your heart with more love than you ever thought a human heart could hold (and more tears than human tear ducts can ever hold in
)

Being a mommy is just an amazing feeling. You are powerful and sometimes powerless. You are energized all day, or you are ready to collapse. Its a whirlwind rollercoaster, thats VERY MUCH worth the ride... right after every little decline comes the BIGGEST SURGE uphill...that makes you wanna have twenty more... (Ok, not twenty.. just yet )

I can go ON and ON but I have to get moving and get stuff done while he's napping and NOT attached to my knees for a few hours...

Re: What is one of the great things about being a mommy?

Honestly, ALL of it is amazing! I agree with the other ladies about it starting while your child is growing inside of you. What an absolute miracle.

5 years later, and all I remember thinking about the moment my son was born was 'Let me hear him cry, let me hear him cry' I just wanted to know he was breathing and OK. Holding your child in your arms is something I hope EACH and EVERY one of you get to experience. You will feel like the most powerful woman in the word, and helpless at the same time. It is such a rush of emotions.

For me, every new stage brought something new to love about being a mom. Nothing will ever make you feel as proud. There WILL be ups and downs, and days where you feel like you want to take a 'leave of absense' from being a mom and there will be many days when you wonder what you did before you had your child. WHere did all of this love come from?

One of the most precious stories I have to share about my son (and I think I may have done this awhile ago) was 2 years ago for my birthday. My mom always bought me something from my son, since I was divorced. Well this was the first year that she actually asked him what he wanted to get me, and he said (mind you he was 3 at the time!) 'I want to get mommy an angel', so my mom asked him why an angel and he said 'Because mommy is my angel'. Well of course she thought this was the sweetest thing, but there were still a couple weeks before my birthday (and I think secretly she was hoping he'd change his mind so she could get my jewelry or something ) and a couple of weeks later she asked him again, and he said 'I want to get mommy an angel because she's my angel'. They went to the store, and there were about 20 angel figurines, and he immediately picked out the one that he HAD to get me. It is the most special gift I have ever recieved (other than himself, of course )

Sorry to go off on a tangent, and really, words cannot express how GREAT being a mom is.

ETA:
Here is a pic with me and my 'birthday angel' and my REAL angel
