We went to the church yesterday and we asked for a full Roman Catholic mass. The deacon who was interviewing us is reluctant to do it because the FH doesn't go to mass every week - he said he would do it if I get the FH to chuch every week. Did anyone else have that problem? I thought it was strange.

I actually don't know if I can go to another church - It may work better because we are looking at having the reception about 40 minutes from the church.

We didn't have that problem at all. On the contrary, our priest acknowledged the fact that many Catholics stray from the church during their teens, 20's and early 30's. He just said that he hoped pre-cana and our marriage sacrament would help bring us back, etc etc.
My priest suggested the same thing but he also said that its up to us. Being that we never go to church it doesn't seem right that I have a mass. The priest also said that if we start attending church, we may want a mass but that's not really happening.

Our priest, told us, we will not get a full mass, because we are not..... true followers of the faith, religious and that would not be right to recieve sacaraments..when you don't go to church every sunday. They take it very seriouly. I agree with my priest, and I opted for the ceremony. I still get to do the unity candles and 3 readings. I think, he is right. But, that is JMO.
Good Luck!!!

I would try another church.
My priest said the same thing. He said it was completely normal to question and find answers and hoped that taking on this new sacrament would help bring us back closer to the church.

Is attending mass on a regular basis out of the question? It makes sense to me that the preist would like to see people that are serious and interested in the relgion get a full mass ceremony.

Re: What do you mean I can't have a mass???
I was given the choice of either the ceremony or the full mass. My FH hardly goes to church anymore and I go about twice a month. You can get married in any church as long as you are registered in your parish. And for some churches, you don't even have to belong to any parish, so I'd try to go to another church if I were in your shoes. Like someone on another post said, our priest said that once we go through Precana and received the blessed sacraments, we will become more active in our church and attend masses more often. Our initial interview with my priest was really nice to the point that we thought of not enjoying it and not knowing what to expect but it was one of the nicest down to earth conversations we could possibly had. And time flew and none of us realized the time that had passed and we talked about so many different subjects. I think everyone should have an experience like this. It's sad that not everyone can actually enjoy it.

Re: What do you mean I can't have a mass???
We were asked the same questions like if we were going to bring our children up in the Catholic faith and we said yes and then our priest asked if we went to church on a regular basis I said I try to get there when I can and our priest said like every Sunday? And I said no like on the holidays and stuff. Our priest then said well you should think about going more often and try to get into a routine of going because once you have kids you will need to take them anyway right? He really wasnt pushy and we have become very close to our priest. I do go to church a lot more often now and I really do get something out of it every weekend.

Re: What do you mean I can't have a mass???
this is the part that I dread... we were brought up catholic and our families expect us to marry in a church but I just dont agree with many things... I dont want to be told what to do and how I should live my life... why do people make this religion issue so complicated, it should be easy... blah, I should start looking for a church but my stomach starts to hurt just thinking about it...

Re: What do you mean I can't have a mass???
My church won't allow us to do a full mass on a Sunday because of time constraints.

Re: What do you mean I can't have a mass???
He can not do that my FH and I do not go to mass every week and we haven't been in a long time. We are having a full mass. My opinion is he can not request that and she should be giving you a full mass. Hope it all work out. Good luck.
