In order to cut costs, I was thinking about not decorating the church or the cocktail hour - DO YOU THINK THIS WILL LOOK TERRIBLE?

I don't think it's bad... You can always get something for the church and then set it up at the CH.... OR, you can always do the CH flowers yourself... get a few dozen flowers and go to Michaels and get some cheap vases and put them on tables at the CH. I definitely think thats an option if you're afraid the room with look too naked.

i initially ordered two flower arrangements for the church, the church were being married in is beautiful, i thought about telling my florist never mind on them because they are very pricy.

Re: What do you think?
For us, our church is rather ornate to begin with. We are going to do very little to decorate. Maybe just those big bow thingies on every other row. Those I feel could be a DIY.
For our CH, I havent priced things out yet, but when I do, if it's going to be ridiculously more expensive to put something on every single little table, I may def skimp on this as well. We have 3 different rooms going for our CH and I dont think it will be feasible to put a mini floral arrangement everywhere. So, my mom suggested some DIY floating votives or something like that.
I believe if you go the route of DIY for CH, and/or your ceremony - your florist will cooperate with you and set it all up after you have given it to her.
All in all, if you decide to go with nothing, I REALLY dont think that its gonna be a big deal. I have been to plenty of CH's where there is no deco and now that I think of it, I never even noticed til just now thinking about it.

My FH and I couldn't agree with you more. We chose venue where the cocktail hour includes ice sculptures as well as CP.
We have also saved money by getting married at reception site to avoid the cost of Limo's.

I don't think you need to decorate the church too much. Maybe put some bows at the ends of the first few pews (you can get pew bows at Michaels or AC MOore). ANd besides all the attention should be on YOU!
CH-don't go crazy save some $. Everyone will be standing around socializing and probably won't notice. But if you want to put something do something small and unobtrusive.

I am not having any decorations at my church. I love the look of my church and do not want to change it with flowers or bows

Re: What do you think?
I didn't even think of getting anything for my Cocktail Hour. In fact, any wedding I've gone too, I never stopped to look around to see how the CH room looked or if their were centerpieces on the table or music playing, etc. I was more interested in getting lots of food, haha.
I also don't pay attention at the Church as to whether there are floral arrangements or pew bows.
I myself do notice the centerpieces for the actual wedding reception. I think for a wedding, the main things the guests care about/pay attention to are the food, drink, and music. So I say focus on those things more and don't worry about flowers for the church or CH.
