I wanted to use a wine barrel as my cardholder, however, I am having a very difficult time finding a small wine barrel. I contacted 6 vineyards out east and none of them have barrels that small. I really don't want to wait til the last minute to find a wine barrel.
So...I was thinking of using two planters. Below is a picture of someone's wine barrel cardholder...and a picture of the two planters I found in a store. Do you think if I stained the planters, added grapes, leaves, monogram, etc...it could pass for a wine barrel?
It definitely looks like a wine barrel. I say paint it and do everything you would do if it was actually a wine barrel and then decide from there if it's truly doable.

It looks good to me! You might want to cut a slit in the top for the cards to be dropped into. This way, no one will even pay attention to the middle where the seams of the 2 planters meet! I'm very impressed with your creativity!

Thank you! :) Yes, I was planning on sawing a slit at the top (or assuming my dad would do it, hehe). I just have to think of a creative way to close the two planters...I don't think wood glue is going to be strong enough.

This is exactly what my friend did...she was having the same problem as you...she wasnt able to find barrels so she put this together. I thought it came out great. She went to Michaels and got grape vine leaves and it looks wonderful. She put the hinges on to keep the barrels together
