While I do think it's important to greet everyone at the wedding, and I do intend to make the rounds at my own reception, it's also important to have fun at that wedding! They just spent tons of money and the last year planning it, why not have the best night of your life? Maybe they felt the receiving line was enough.

I agree the bride and groom should always at least thank their guests for coming. My husband and I did all we could to literally see each and every person at the wedding. We didn't want to be rude to anyone of course. Whoever we didn't see at the receiving line we made sure to address at the reception after we were done with pictures. And we gladly thanked them for sharing our day with us. However we both wanted to enjoy our wedding day so we didn't linger with anyone particular person.

When you're spending tens of thousands of dollars (and countless hours planning) for a party, you want to have a good time!! I will be on the dance floor all damn night. But I intend to greet everyone (or close to it) at cocktail hour. They probably figured their receiving line got the job done.

That was us! We did have a receiving line and we were at our cocktail hour for about 30 minutes, and we tried to say hello to as many people as possible. We did this because we knew we wanted to dance all night, and we did. We tried to dance with different people but when you are In a room with 170 people that you both know, it's hard! We did everything beforehand to make sure our guests enjoyed the night, and when the night came, we wanted to enjoy it for ourselves.

I hear what you are all saying, but I guess you can call me old fashioned. Hubby and I didn't get to spend near as enough time eating or dancing with 270 guests, but I don't regret going around to each and every guest during cocktail hour and our reception to say thank you for coming to our wedding. We invited those people for a reason and not to take a little bit of time out to thank them and pose for a picture (I mean, who doesn't want a picture with the bride and groom?) is just bad manners to me.
