What do you think about this?
We are thinking about doing this..Instead of rice or bubbles when we exit the church, we thought we might give everyone a balloon, and release them as we head out to the limos.
Has anyone seen this done? My dad has, and says it's beautiful.. But my mom said it's illegal to release balloons in NYC?
But our church is in Floral Park, Nassau county, any one know what the rules are?
Thanks
Jen

Re: What do you think about this?
Actually, they did pass a law against balloon releases. I don't remember the specifics--like it might have just been Suffolk, and not Nassau. Also, I think it just limited you to like 20 balloons, but didn't completely ban it. It was the endagering birds issue.

I am sure that it would look great, but it is bad for birds.

i like the idea. what's w/ the birds. they have wings, let them worry about dodging the baloons.

Re: What do you think about this?
I agree that it's a nice idea, but it's very damaging to the environment, not just birds. Once the baloons loose their helium and drop, other small animals can choke on them too.

Re: What do you think about this?
It's not like the balloons are going to attack the birds, it's the issue that when they float away, they usually break over bodies of water, etc. The birds think it's something edible (depending on the color) and they try to eat them. The plastic gets stuck in their intestines and they die a painful death.

Balloons sounds nice, but I agree that they would be bad for the environment.
Look into the restrictions, though. It might be okay where you live

I think it would look really nice but I have to side with nature here and say go with bubbles or rice. BTW I am getting married at OLV in Floral Park... small world.

Re: What do you think about this?
There is this product. It is suppose to be safe for birds.
WEDDING RICE
Since ancient times, rice has been a symbol of fruitfulness and prosperity in marriage. For today’s bride, we offer environmentally correct rice which has been specially developed to dissolve in water and crush underfoot. Its heart-shaped grains add a romantic touch. One bag is enough for approximately 100 guests.
