What do you think about this for tipping??

What do you think about this for tipping??

Okay so I think tipping is crazy these days. We are already paying our vendors an arm and a leg for their services. I see a tip as a extra thank you for a job well done. I was reading a magazine where a girl mentioned she did not tip the day of the wedding but evaluated all the vendors performance the day of and then tipped them after the wedding based on the service she received.

So I was thinking about this and it sounds like it could be a great idea. If you give all the tips to someone to give out and then the dj is 2 hours late and he still gets his tip I would be upset. He then doesn't deserve a tip in my mind. What do you ladies think?

Good idea or not?

I think I am misreading this, when did she tip them?

you mean some people tip them right away?!

Thats insane! did I misunderstand?

The tips will happen after they are done - no?

That is how I am doing it, i think....

I am tipping at the end of the night. There is no way I am going to tip someone until I learn what their services were like!

I thought you normally have cash set aside in envelopes to hand out tips at the end of the wedding. When exactly do you tip?

It makes sense to tip at the end. It's like a thank you for a job well done. What if someone doesn't do a good job? Why would you tip them before?

i was planning to do it at the end of the evening (UGH i still have issues w/ paying people to do their job.. but i vented all of that on BHB)

but i really like that idea! i'm not going to pass off thousands of dollars just b/c its 'routine'... they need to earn it, and by the end of my wedding night, i'm sure i will not be in the best 'frame of mind' haha to decide how good they were.

Also, you hear ALOT of stories of how the brides were busy, and didnt think anything went wrong, and then hear stories about yucky some of the guests were treated, etc. I'd liek to know that BEFORE i give up that kind of money.
And, with the photographer, i feel like i shouldnt lay out a tip until i have my albums and everything else in my package-- what is the common tipping time w/ them?

I totally agree with this. I agree that tipping should be done once the service is completed. Therefore IMO photography and videography and should be tipped when you get your albums and video. Let's say you tip your photographer and then realize that the pictures were not nice or that he/she did not take some pictures on your 'must-take' list. Actually, I'm really glad you brought up this topic, I really think that I am going to tip my photographer and videographer after you get the pictures and video.

Hi Ladies,
After thinking about this longer and speaking with FH this is what we are going to do. Wait until after the wedding and all services have been completed. I agree in waiting to give photo/video a tip until you see the final product. That is true what neenie said. You might not know what things went on.

Who knows I will probably change me mind 5 times anyway

I am all for tipping at the end of the night and will give that responsibility to both the MOH and best man. However, I have heard if you want to get a little extra out of the reception hall especially the wedding coordinator you should sweeten the pot before hand. But I don't know if I would do any prior event tipping.

I agree I am not talking about the waitstaff. I used to work for a catering hall. So beforehand I plan on tipping each and every waiter and waitress and thanking them for a job well done beforehand. Someone did this once to the staff where I worked and I swear everyone worked their A$$ off that night. The father of the bride gathered all the waitstaff in a room beforehand and handed out a 20 to each person. A little acknowledgement and respect goes a long way. Because I don't know if most people know this but the 18% gratuity goes to pay the salary of the staff and not a tip at all.
