What do you think of silk flowers?

What do you think of silk flowers?

Friends of mine are getting married in February. I suggested doing silk flowers. I think if we get really good quality silk, nobody would even be able to notice.

Has anyone done silk? Do you have pics?

What are your thoughts?

TIA!

If they're good quality - why not? It's all about personal preference.

JMHO: I love the smell of flowers, can't get that with the silk flowers.

Why the choice for silk instead of the real thing?

I have a friend who did silk flowers and they were beautiful. She did it because she wanted to keep her bouquet.

I am making my own bouquets out of silk also, because I am allergic. The nicer looking ones are more expensive, but worth it I think.

I'm not a big fan of silk, for several reason. One the flowers don't die so all your BM and anyone else who has flowers is stuck with a bouque they don't know what to do with and would feel bad throwing out. That happened to a friend of mine. All her BM left the bouques in her house and now she can't get rid of them. I would suggest maybe having the arrangements and your bouque silk and your BMs real flowers. That way they won't be stuck with them.

Well, she is concerned about pricing. In February the price of flower goes up because of Valentine's Day. My Aunt is Flower by Rosemarie, and unfortunately she doesn't do any weddings in jaunuary and february. Otherwise she would have used her. Because my aunt is away for those two months, and my mother and I don't have access to her facilities and ordering the flowers, we suggested silk. This way my mother and I can do the bouquets at our own leisure from now until the wedding and we don't have to worry about the flowers coming in bad or dying etc....

My friend is only doing flower for the bouquets and boutioneeres, coursages. No arrangements. She is doing candles for the tables.

I told her that if she buys good quality silks, nobody will even know. (except the people holding/wearing them.)

I think silk flowers can look really nice. Someone just posted a review on the bride's review board and she had all silk flowers. You couldn't even tell they were silk!

when in Feb. is she getting married? I'm getting married on the 25th and valentines day doesn't affect my pricing at all. Also, she can look into in-season flowers (like tulips).

I personally always preferred real flowers...until my friend got married in July and used silk ones...I could not believe how real they looked!

I don't have the picture here, but I will post when I get home to show you how beautiful they look.

She's getting married Feb. 4th. The pricing goes up Feb. 1st. She said she called a few florists and they all told her the same thing, that it was going to be extremely expensive.

Oh she HAS to have Lily's. That's another reason why we suggested silk. It's hard to judge with lily's in the winter (as far as them opening in time etc...) My mother used to own a florist, that I worked in, and my aunt does the wedding flowers, so we know all the pros and cons with these darn lily's.

Which one? I'd like to see the pics.

Thanks

Lillies...I have yet to see GOOD SILK lillies...they all look fake to me.

Lillies smell like a funeral home...JMHO.

If she's just getting the personal flowers, the cost won't be high at all. I know a lot of florists have 'packages' for personal flowers, excluding the CP's...I've seen them under $700

I would definitely shop around with florists...February 4 is not that close to V.Day.

ETA: Aren't most flowers during the winter imported anyway?

I am not really a fan of silk flowers, but if that's what works better, why not? I have heard, however, that the really nice silk flowers are not that much cheaper than the real ones. so unless I wanted to keep the bouquet as a keepsake 'as is' I think I would go with the real ones, if the price was nto much different.

If having the real deal isn't high on the list of priorities, then I say go for the silk ones.

There are some really beautiful ones out there, and so much you can do. There is a lot of pics on another wedding website I use, but its down right now. Will post when its back up and running.
