Our Best Man and gf have been dating on and off for 8yrs and are getting engaged in the fall. Our Best Man(FH Brother) tells us Saturday night that they might get married at City hall at the end of the year and then have a wedding reception in 2009 as planned! They both currently live rent free under my FH parents roof and plan to til 2009! His brother is currently unemployed so that's why they both live at the parents house. They have to ask my FH parents if it's ok to get married at the end of the year. What do you think of this? My FH is trying to talk him out of it. I said if you want to get married and you have ur parents blessing at least get married at church. I think it will be weird if they're married living at the parents house for another 1 1/2 to save money. Any thoughts?

Re: What do you think of this.....
I dont think there is anything wrong with it.
FH's parents have a 2 bedroom apt upstairs in their house. Seperate enterance and deck and they are actually re-doing alot of it such as the bathroom, painting, carpeting. So we plan on living there until we can afford a condo or hopefully a house. Which will prob be a year or two after we get married in Dec 2008. But it is rent free and we are thankful for that since it will help us to save for a house quicker.
But I hope they are getting married for the right reasons! Maybe talk to your FBIL and ask him why they want to rush into getting married will it help with something= does his gf have a good job with good benefits since he doesnt have a job!!?? Maybe that is why they are thinking about this.

I could understand a separate entrance and all that into the house but it's not. RIght now he's in one room and she's in the other room. She doesn't have a job that can support them both. And the only reason why they would get married at the end of the year is bc she's giving him sh*t for going out for 8yrs and they should be married. I don't know why the rush for a piece of paper. I think they should do it the right way. They might regret it.

i just think he should get a job - how did he manage to keep a g/f without having a job? and how are they getting engaged? where does he get money???
we live in the apartment downstairs from FH's parents - we still pay rent though - they need the income to help pay their mortgage but since they want us to be able to save a little they lowered the rent - its $200 less than we were paying in our original apartment.....so it helps! especially since we are paying a mortgage on our property in florida

He had a decent amount of money saved while he was working and used the majority of his savings for a ring(which he spent 7k more than he wanted to) and on bills. He's been out of work for a year and a half. They're getting engaged at the end of November.
My FH is against it mainly bc of the job situation. She's the only one saving money and she has crazy bills too.

i dont know if this is too personal...but why doesnt he have ajob after a year and a 1/2? I would be going crazy. But did he have an injury or something that kept him out? I think they should think everything through before going ahead and getting married. I think finances are very important in their situation

I know I agree with it. He wants to get into the banking field and his thinking was since i'm home I might as well wait to see if I can get a job in this field. He only has a 2yr degree and you need a 4yr degree and he refuses to go back to school. He is just starting to know realize that its a lost cause. But he's just so content being home. He goes to the gym and runs errands. I'd be going OUT OF MY MIND!
