ok, so we finally came to a decision about music after weeks of deliberation. we decided that we really want live music, but we don't want the band to play modern music because in our opinions it's just not the same as hearing the original artist sing the song. so yesterday we heard a band and dj combination that we loved! here are the prices:

cocktail hour: a pianist and saxophonist from the band

Dinner (8:30-10:30 or 11):
keyboards
bass
drums
3 horns - sax, trumpet, trombone
2 singers, one male and one female

they will be doing strictly big band, swing, etc. while we have dinner and some dancing in between courses. omg, we heard them live last night and they were amazing!!

After dinner (10:30 - 12:30 or 1)
DJ playing all of our favorite other music!

all together, we were quoted $6400 for 6 hours of music.

do you think that is too much or just right? it seems on par with what most people are paying, but i just wanted to make sure that we weren't getting ripped off or anything.

THANKS,
alex

Not necessarily true. My band did everything from At Last, by Etta James, to Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi. They sounded phenomenol. People keep saying 'How did they do that? They did everything!'

We had a 6 hour party and our price came in at about $5k

sure, i don't doubt that there are bands out there who do phenomenal renditions of all kinds of music. we've actually heard a few amazing bands. but in our opinions they are still renditions of songs that we would rather hear in their original forms. but it's totally a matter of taste!

i was going to say that we got an 8 piece band. Theyre fabulous. A good rule of thumb for a band is between 750-1000 per piece..

needlesstosay.. i think you did really good..the 6400 includes the dj? if yes, i think you did great

That sounds like a good price to me.
