what does a hostess do

what does a hostess do

i have my bridal party set and i was curious about asking a friend of mine be a hostess. She just got engaged and is getting married 4 months after me.

I didnt think it was really necessary but i thought it would be sweet to ask her.

if i do ask her, what do i say to her. i was thinking of maybe a poem and emailing her or something.

she knows i have my BP set and that i have been engaged for 4 months.

i dont want her to feel like i am doing this out of pitty or that she owes me anything. I think she is a wonderful lady, and would really do a great job as hostess.

what are the responsibilities??? and what should i say to her

Re: what does a hostess do

I was a hostess for my friend's wedding in December. I took care of programs. Laid them out in a design and distributed them. I also helped keep things on track. For some reason something is bound to happen and people forget things so I usually was making sure things ran smoothly. She had a coordinator but still there was a lot for me to do.

This seems like a 'job' more than an honorary role IMO. So I would say you should only ask someone who you know will be more than excited to pitch in and run around for you that day (preferably someone who has offered their help multiple times already).

So ask her in a way thats like 'I could really use your help/expertise/enthusiasm to do x,y,z. Giving you these tasks I know they will be done right, etc...' Sort of like explaining why you have asked her to do it.

My sis is my hostess......... SHe will be great, but I see a hostess as not just the runaround person, but the Meet and Greet person, so someone who is sociable and friendly. You can use that approach with her, and tell her b/c of her outgoing nature, etc. . .. I am making a poem for someone, if she wants to share, then you can have it too

Re: what does a hostess do

thats what i keep thinking that it seems more of a 'job' then a honory thing.

My fi is against it because we have our bridal party and of the bridal party, he knows that my cousin is a bm and her mom (my aunt) will be helping out, his cousin is a bm and her mom (his aunt) will be helping out, one of my other BM's is an organized aholic and will make sure things are all done and confirmed (kidding me she would be calling the hall letting them know we are on the way from the limo)

so i really didnt think i would need a hostess with such a great bridal party.

what was mentioned before was how there is going to be so much going on and the BM's are going to be busy doing other things that maybe a hostess would be good to have to keep things on track while me and the party are busy doing other things.

is a hostess really necessary?? I am so wishy washy on this

If you're wishy washy about it, then dont even bother. It is absolutely NOT necessary, it's only if you want one. My sis wants to do this b/c she doesnt want to walk down the isle. Plus, she likes to be the boss
