What does Clomid do?

What does Clomid do?

I've seen so many people talk about taking it but I don't know what it does. Can someone explain? Can anyone take it when they start TTCing? or do you have to wait until a certain amount of time passes?

This link might help Clomid

I hope I describe it accurately here :

Clomid is a fertility drug that works to suppress and/or stimulate the various hormones in your body which will then encourage ovulation

Every situation varies, but its sometimes prescribed to those who do not ovulate regularly, or to those who might not ovulate on their own ...those with hormonal imbalances, etc.

Usually ladies who have been trying to conceive 'naturally' for quite some time (anywhere from after 6 month-1 year) with little or no success will be prescribed Clomid at some point. It depends on your personal health and history, other medical issues you may have and of course your RE or ob/gyn's discretion at what point they'll decide to give you Clomid

HTH!

Wow thanks, what I don't understand though is that although it allows you to ovulate (realease a mature egg) it creates a hostile cervical enviornment - doesn't that negate the benefit of taking Clomid in the first place? Or is that a rare occurance?

You can use a friendly lubricant like pre-seed which will help with the dryness

my re wants me to be on clomid next cycle...and....go straight for IUI....that avoids the whole cervical mucus....situation.
