I am thinking of having an engagement party. That is a barbeque/pool party. My FH sister has a really big backyard and a pool she said we could have it there.
we just want something for the family and friends to get together

as FH says he just wants everyone to get together and have a good time. he is like i do not want any presents i just want everyone to have fun.

I think thats a great idea - you can even have it ON the 4th of July - and it will be a 2-in-one thing - celebrate your engagement, and celebrate the 4th of July!! Fireworks for both - and im sure it will be fun!!

Sounds great to me - my family had a small engagement party for us in my sister's backyard and it was great...nice and relaxed.

it sounds like fun, we even considered having our formal e-party (just for family & friends) in my aunt's backyard, I did the research and it would actually cost us alot more than having it out. I have a big family though.
When we figured out the cost of:
- renting tents - renting tabels & chairs - renting plates, glasses (you can buy plastic disposible for cheap) flateware
- hiring a bartender, servers, bus boys, vallet etc.
it would also have been alot of work, clean up & set up, preperations, etc.
We just did this last week so everything is fresh in my mind...

I think it sounds awesome, very informal...a great way for your family and friends to get to know each other..If I wasn't having one in April I would totally do a BBQ/pool party
