I am still confused about some of the abbreviations and sayings on this site. what is 'DH' - dear husband? what does 'bump' mean? that someone doesn't know how to respond but wants someone else to? HELP!
Bump is when someone wants the thread to go to the top of the page. Or sometimes it gets pushed to page 2 and they want it to be on page1 to get more answers!

DH means Dear Husband To 'bump' is to post on a thread to bring it to the top of the page
MIL = Mother in Law or Monster in Law SIL = Sister in Law BIL = Brother in Law

Re: sorry for not knowing, but....
DH Means dear husband when you BUMP something... it means you go and find it on an old page and you type bump.. once you post anything on that post it brings it to the top of the first page so more people can read/see it.

Re: sorry for not knowing, but....
you got it - DH is usually dear husband, sometimes dumb, sometimes darn
Other common abbreviations: FH is future husband DW dear wife FW future wife FIL/MIL father/mother in law MOB mother of bride MOG mother of groom MOH maid/matron of honor BM best man or brides maid FG/RB flower girl/ring bearer CP centerpiece
And threads where the original poster wants more help or suggestions are 'bumped' back to the first page for more views.

Re: sorry for not knowing, but....
DH-dear husband
bump-The post goes 'down the list' over the course of time and someone needs it or the original poster wnats to make sure that more people can see it. When you post something on the old thread it comes back to the first page. BUMP is just a good word to use because it's to bump the post up!

Me too,, I was so proud of myslf when I figured that one out!
BM is confusing- you have to rely on contect clues. It can mean Bridesmaid Best Man Banquet Manager
I also see FI sometimes which I guess is short for Fiance, which soem people use instead of FH or FW ( Future wife)
oh, and IMO means In My opinion
and this one took a while for me, you'll see it more on the newlywed board, but TTC is 'trying to concieve' at least that's what I think it means.

Re: sorry for not knowing, but....
And here I thought I was the only one who had no idea what DH meant when I first signed onto LIW... now it all seems so easy!
One night my FH looked over my shoulder and said 'what is DH? Does that mean DUMB HUSBAND?'
(ok he said another 'D' word I do not want to print here.......)
And at first I had NO IDEA what 'STD' meant .. I kept thinking of sexually transmitted diseases (sorry!!!)

Re: sorry for not knowing, but....
I hate STD! I know it means 'save the date' but that's never what I think when I see it!
