I am really not sure what to do here. I called them Mr/Mrs for about six months, then by their first names for about a year and a half, and now every time they call me they say Hi it's Mom/Dad...I am not sure if I should call them by their names still or Mom and Dad, and if I even am comfortable with the Mom/Dad thing. Just curious what everyone else is doing.

Re: What do/will you call your in-laws?
Lord, we had a fight over this!
I started calling them by first name when his dad said I could call him by his first name. Well, FI gets into a fight with his mom and she blurts out that she's offended that I call her her first name! Now I'm severly pissed because my FSIL started calling both of them Mom and Dad as soon as she met them, and my FSIL and my FMIL were only engaged for liek 3 months - my FI and I were going out for NINE YEARS! I'm totally thinking this is a race thing, and I'm pissed and upset.
So then I find out that what it is that she thinks calling my MIL and FIL by their first names in public is disrespectful and that I should call them Mom and Dad like my FSIL and like she did for her MIL. First names are okay in private.
WHAT KIND OF CRACK IS THAT??!!! Has anyone heard of that before?!
So I didn't call her anything for awhile, and now I'm calling her Mom like it's going out of style. Figure I might as well get used to it.

Re: What do/will you call your in-laws?
To be quite honest I don't really call them anything when i am speaking to them... If i write something that is from the both of us i write mom and dad.. If it is just from me i use the first name.. I would never call them mr. and mrs. because i think that is stupid.. you are part of a family with eachother now, i don't think you should have to call them mr. and mrs. I would not call them mom and dad, but sometimes when FH's dad talks to me about his mom he will refer to her as mom when speaking to me, but that is about it.

Re: What do/will you call your in-laws?
I can't call them Mom or Dad. My situation is even more weird. Both our parents are divorced and both of our moms have kept their married names. To add. My Fi's dad got remarried (i know its REALLY WEIRD). SO i have a Mr, a Mrs and a Ms? I dunno the whole thing is confusing. My FI's mom likes it when she is called Mom. I can't do it, nor can i say Dad. I don't even use the first names (except for the step mom..i say her first name). I don't know what i am going to do.

We've been married for almost six months and I'm still calling them Mr. & Mrs.! It's not that I'm against calling them Mom and Dad, I just can't seem to get the words to come out of my mouth.

I call them by their first names but I already know they are going to ask me to call them mom/dad. I can call his mothe mom quite easily becasue she really has been like a mom to be but his father I don't think that is going to happen, but it is only right to give it a shot

Re: What do/will you call your in-laws?
I call mine by their first names as my Fi parents are not really into formally although I was raised by referring to the elders as 'Mr. XX' or 'Mrs. XX' 'Ms. XX' salutations. However, my FMIL and FFIL insist with first names. My Fi refers to my parents with 'Mr.' and 'Mrs.' as my parents are old fashioned and are really into formally as in Chinese culture formal salutations are a sign of respect/honor thy elderly. Confront with your Fi about this issue and ask your in-laws on salutations. Ask them what their preferences are with formal salutations 'Mr.' or 'Mrs.' or informal with first names or 'Mom' or 'Dad' as everyone has a preference.

I call my DH mom by her first name. Two nights ago she approached me and told me if I feel comfortable I can call her mom. I am not too sure if I am going to call her that yet. He calls my dad pops and calls my mom something different everytime we see her!

Re: What do/will you call your in-laws?
I call my mother inlaw by her first name. I called her 'mother in law' in her language (my FH is from another country), and she told me that she wants to be like girlfriends, so I should call her by her first name. I have never met my father in law- but when I refer to him with my FH and his mom they insist I call him by his first name.
I don't think I could call anyone mom and dad, besides my own parents. I think first names are fine.

I call them by their first names when speaking to them, but for example , in Christmas cards, I wrote Dear Mom and .....' because I am signing it from DH and I. He calls my parents by their first names but when my Mom calls us she says 'Hi it's Mom' - confusing!!!!!!
Just do like Ray Barone does and say 'Hey you!'

Re: What do/will you call your in-laws?
Well, after dating my FH for 4 years, I finally became comfortable calling them by their first names. Before that, I'd rarely call them anything. When I called his house, I would just say, 'Hi, it's Jackie!' My FH still doesn't call my parents anything! The funny thing is that I don't think my brother in law calls my parents anything either, and he has been married to my sister for 10 years, and dated her for 8 before that! I have a hard time imagining calling my FH's parents 'mom and dad' any time soon, although his dad signs e-mails to me as 'your other dad.' I think I'll stick to first names for awhile, at least.

I am in the whole not calling people older than you by their first names boat. I was raised that it is disrespectful. So I call them Mr and Mrs. I guess I will continue that way until they say otherwise. FH calls my mom MOM, he doesn't call my dad anything. FH doesn't quite care for him AT ALL.

Re: What do/will you call your in-laws?
Their first names.
I already have a dad so I don't find it right to call my FFIL 'dad'. And his mother passed away so I call his step mom by her first name. I've never met her because she's in Ireland. I'll meet her next November.
And FH calls my dad by his first name, always have.
