What Else Could He Say?
Re: What Else Could He Say?
Agreed.. though the mayor of NO and the governor should also be taking responsibility. Those in charge of the city and the state should have had more prior knowledge about the vast # of people unable to leave the city. AGreed the response by the feds was lacking and should have been better. But, a lot of the deaths and problems would have been avoided if state and local leaders had been better prepared with evacuation plans, etc.. given that the city is below sea level and people have been saying for years that if this type of storm hit it would be disastrous.

If the pic was just for humor sake, then disregard this bc I really don't want to turn this into some sort of political debate. However, I feel strongly that regardless of any political affiliation the people of NO were let down in a number of ways. There were failures at multiple levels of government. No doubt the response to the catastrophe from the feds should have been better, but the reality is that only state and local officials know the ins and out of the individual cities. We might not have needed as much fed help if there had been a plan in place to get the 30K people who were stranded there out in time. If the mayor knows his city well and the gov. her state well, they should have been aware there were that many people who didn't have the means to get out and done something ahead of time, like make a plea to the fed govt AHEAD OF TIME to get buses down there to get people out. This needs to be looked at comprehensively and lessons need to be learned from it at all levels-- not one person or one level of government turned into the scapegoat. Otherwise, we will be in the same position if, god forbid, another tragedy like this occurs.

FYI -- I know two people from LA directly affected by the hurricane. I've heard from them what this whole process has been like... and while I may be getting on my soap box in this post, I just strongly feel that they and the other people in the town (and the whole country for that matter) deserve a comprehensive analysis of the situation.
