What exactly happened?

What exactly happened on Crab Meadow Beach in Northport tonight? Im hearing a few different stories..I know there was a helicopter crash..

I think around 6 tonight..My parents followed the firetrucks down to the beach. I caught a glimpse of news on channel 11 but at 11 I will put on news12.
I was just wondering if anyone new anything..

Helicopter crashes into wate

Two men were killed when the helicopter they were riding in crashed into the water off Crab Meadow Beach in Northport yesterday afternoon, police and fire officials said.

The two-seat helicopter dropped into the water about 25 yards off the beach about 4 p.m. yesterday, said a Suffolk County Police spokeswoman. It had taken off from Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma.

Rescue officials were unclear why the helicopter crashed. Officials from MacArthur Airport declined to comment last night.

One man was dead when rescue officials arrived at the scene, police said. The other victim died at Huntington Hospital, authorities said.

The helicopter was privately owned with only the two men on board, said Northport Fire Department Assistant Chief Arthur Gerow.

WOW!! I hadn't heard anything either!

Although all we hear on Sunday evenings are the helicopters coming home from the Hamptons, so maybe we didn't notice anything out of the ordinary ...



ETS: Okay, we weren't home around 4PM.

Wow! That's scary. And sad.

They didn't recover one of the bodies yesterday. It's still in the helicopter...they're going for him today. So sad
