no at the end of ceremony usually the parents and BP along with bride and groom line up and thank and greet the guest as they exit the church

I'm not crazy about doing this either, but my mom is insisting. 'It's rude not to let everyone come up to you and say hi'. Arrggghhh!!

Sometimes people do it at the reception too as guests are coming in. I know my uncles did this and they did a shot with there guests as they were coming in. The bride and groom did a lot of juice shots LOL. We are not doing this though because the one thing i do remember about my aunt and uncles wedding is my dad being drunk before they even ate dinner.

Re: what exactly is a receiving line
I'd like a receiving line- maybe not the whole BP- but FH&I and our parents/grandparents. We may have to cut it out though for time purposes.....
(it's when you leave the ceremony/ church... not necessary, really depends on time I think b/c it can take awhile esp. if you have a lot of people at your ceremony)

Re: what exactly is a receiving line
I'm not going to do an entire receiving line. Just me, FH and our parents.. I went to a wedding on Saturday and they had the whole BP there as well. I felt really akward going up to the people I dont know So I want to avoid that akwardness for ppl at my wedding Maybe its just me since I'm shy though, who knows

just so you know i never even gave this a thought before hand. . . when i got outside our parents just stepped to the side and we joined them - next thing we knew. . .it was a receiving line and it was SO nice to see every single person that came to the wedding and have them congratulate you
i cant imagine just 'leaving' i have never seen that, and IMO its a bit rude.
AND i got to see people that were at the church that i would never have realized were there! it was so nice to see them!
AND i had a packed church and it took maybe 15 minutes? people know they have to move it along

Re: what exactly is a receiving line
we're planning to do ours as we leave the church...since we're the first ones out i figure the guests would pass us anyway...and we're not planning to have EVERYONE stand there...just us and the parents so maybe less people would cut down the time as well?
u dont HAVE to have one like if youre ceremony and reception are in the same place...u could also just greet people at the ch hour etc. or do the other option of meeting ppl as they enter the reception (or just go around tables etc).

We're definitely doing it but I think just me, FH and our parents....to speed it up! Plus it would be awkward for the whole BP I think...
