What exactly is an engagement partY????

who throws it?
whos invited?
what do u register for? does it have to be just house wears?
My moms a single mom so really shed be throwing it alone... does it have to be expensive?

so new at this and with no older siblings i really only been to 2 weddings, no engagement parties, no bridal showers, only some baby showers thats it!!!

just gathering info for me and my mom who is also very clueless

I have been to engagement parties that are formal and informal, thrown by the parents and thrown by the couple. I myself did not even have one!

Do whatever is in your budget if you want an e-party. There is no 'norm.' No matter where you are, you'll have a great time!

Future In-laws threw the party for FH and I in FH's sister's backyard. It was SO beautiful. It was in Sept of 03. We ate, opened presents and asked our bridal party to be a part of the wedding. We didn't register for it because we were hoping for monetary gifts unfortunately guests thought otherwise and we got 9 baking racks You can go really cheap or you can go really elaborate. It's whatever you want it to be.

For us, we wanted our closest friends and family to get together to celebrate our engagement...FH and I paid for a nice sit-down dinner at a nice restaurant in a private room...We dressed up (suit for him, black dress, hair done for me) have out favors and cut the cake...
Our guests' dress varied from...Actually, I don't think anyone had jeans on...Mostly slacks, shirts, maybe a suit or two...It was fun.
Our gifts varied as well...

If you want to keep it small and save money--(I didnt want it to be a mini wedding) so I only had immediate family invited--my parents were the ones that wanted to have it for us, so they paid for it, but it was immediate family only and bridal party, which consisted of siblings, aunts, uncles and first cousins only---along w/ bridal party and guests came to about 50 people---Go to a lot of places to get prices per plate and go w/ the most reasonable!

As far as registering, I had registered for some stuff, not alot, I got maybe 4 gifts and the rest were cards.....

My e party is acutally coming up nov 6 2004, both my parents and his are paying for it. We are actually having it at a hall and did invite 100 ppl. The only reason why we are having it is b/c they insisted on us having 1. Other than that I probably would've had something small.
