I tried on a gown that I loved and the salesperson said it was silk (at least I could swear she did). I went to the designers website it says that it's matte satin. What IS matte satin? Thanks for answering my silly question!

It's satin that's not so shiny. The salesperson may have been misleading you to justify a high price (?) since silk is a natural, and therefore more expensive, fabric. Satin is a manmade fabric, but still beautiful.
