What food to serve at a party??? PLEASSSSSSE HELP!!!!!
Hey guys I need ideas on what food to serve at a party at my house for approximately 50 people (all women), it's an afternoon party starts at like 12:00pm so far I made a tentative list but can you guys please give me opinions on maybe what I should add or take away, etc. for each category. As much input as you can give me would really help, thanks sooooo much!!!!
MAIN COURSE Tossed Salad 6ft. hero (½ Italian ½ American) SHOPRITE $9.99/ft Baked Ziti Meatballs Rigatoni ala Vodka Baked Chicken
DESSERT Fruit Salad Cake Cookies Brownies

maybe some more hors d'ouveres for finger food? costco has really great variety packs that come with piggie in a blanket, mini-quiches, etc. so that there is some hot finger food.
i really think you are good to go with the amount of variety you have! its a good mix.
make sure you buy a few bags of ice for the drinks--and maybe get a seprate cooler just for that. i think ppl tend to underestimate the need for ice!
ETA: you put french onion dip--maybe have a few more dips like ranch....or another dip that is SO yummy is the Wise Green Onion dip. it tastes GREAT with chips and veggies!

hor'deurves cocktail weenies shrimp cocktail stuffed italian bread - (any italian deli will have it) - it is usually stuffed with pepperoni, or spinach, or sausage and peppers - DELISH!
entrees chicken marsala chicken francaise sausage and peppers
dessert cupcakes

horderves you can do like puffed pastries. I have seen them at waldbaumsand bj's. they come in a box of like 100 they have potato puffs, potato & spinich and little hot dog and more.
but it looks like you have it covered

hmmm for munchies i would add something to it. Don't know how much after they arrive you will serve dinner but just chips and dips will keep people hungry.
heres a few suggestions and i guess just pick whatever is in your budget
bruschetta spring rolls shrimp dumplings empanadas finger sandwiches stuffed mushrooms pigs in a blanket mini quiche's baked clams buffalo wings mozzarella sticks zucchinni sticks calamari nachos rice balls potato croquettes

Ahhh there we go, thanks for the suggestions. I'll have the horderves out with the munchies almost right after people arrive.
I'll be taking a ride to BJ's (don't have a costco card) to see if they have some big bags/boxes of the assorted horderves, thanks Melissa!
I also wasn't sure if my food selection was 'appropriate' because it's an early party should I have more brunch-type food or do you think it's ok what I have?

another suggestion either instead of the meatballs or just to add it, something else to your main course...for baked ziti you dont need meatballs with it or for rigatoni ala vodka, those are two dishes that can be eaten alone so maybe add another meat dish besides the baked chicken

Lots of dip, onion, guacamole, with different veggies, you can do pigs in a blanket, mini cheese pies, spinach pies, mini beef wellintons, shrimp puff, etc etc

I think what you have listed is fantastic and that you're well on your way!! If you need some brunch ideas, it would be cute to do little tea sandwiches, buy some ready made quiche, a fruit platter. Also, not sure if there is a Trader Joe's wine store near you, sparkling wine is approx 5 dollars a bottle! You can get some orange juice and make some mimosa's... The only difference between sparking wine and champagne is that champagne can only be called 'champagne' if it's from France. Sparkling wine usually from CA. Hope this helps!!

what about a pasta salad w/ tricolor spiral pasta, a bag of thawed mixed veggies and italian dressing? Just toss and chill. Also, a salad w/ mixed spring greens, gorgonzola, walnuts and craisins tossed in raspberry vinagrette.
