The unveiling for my FH's grandnparents is coming up (his grandma died on the day his grandpa's grave was to be unveiled, so they put off both for this year). What happens? How should I dress? Is there anything I need to know?

Dress as you would for a funeral/wake. It's just a short service at the cemetary and then you'll probably go back to someone's house for food.

Everyone will gather by the grave and a prayer is said and you leave a small stone to symbolize you were there and the you usually have something to eat at a restaurant or at someones home.

Ok...thanks!
I get nervous about everything I haven't done before...you never know!
I feel better now....well aside from having to see FH's wretched sister and BIL

Wear a skirt or nice pants and nice top. They will take the cloth covering the gravestone off, and the rabbi will say a blessing. It's pretty short, and then you'll go eat at a restaurant or someone's house. It's a time for family to be together. I barely remember the two I went to. It was my grandma and my great uncle - on the same day! My family flew up from Florida. First we had my grandma's unveiling on Staten Island, then my Great Uncle's in Elmont, then we went out for a late lunch. I don't remember it taking very long.

I'm not familiar with this custom at all (being Catholic) and was just curious as to when this takes place & what it signifies. Thanks.
