What happens if you have no shows or extra people?

What happens if you have no shows or extra people?

If we are above our minimum and say 3 people don't show up, do we still get charged?

I know we would probably get charged. I'm just curious what happened to past brides.

If you have an extra person, do they just pull up a chair and add a place setting?

Did you have any no shows or extra people?

well, i think it depends on the hall......at the swan club i was told if my minium was 100 people, amd only 98 showed up then we would be charged for 100 people, but if we wentover 100 then we would have to pay for them....

I mean after we give our final headcount and seating chart.

My guarrantee was 150. I had 172 RSVPs. After I made my final payment I had 6 people cancel and a family of 4 not show up. Basically I was SOL.....

If additional the opposite would have happend and I had more people show up than the 172, the reception place would have them seated with a place setting and I would just have to pay in cash for the additional people.

hope that answers your questions.

Most halls require you to pay in full for your minimum before your wedding day. So, if your min is 100 and only 98 show up, you've already paid for the 2 no-shows and you do NOT get your $$ back.

From what I am told, they will do the final count on the wedding day by how many place settings there are and will charge you additional $$ if more people show up. they will get a place setting together quickly if someone needs one on the day of the wedding.

Exactly. In fact, I might recommend you give them a slightly lower headcount, because you can always add on and give them more $$ than get money back from them.

Wish I followed my own advice!

It may depend on your hall. My hall said that when I give the final headcount that they will NOT refund any of the money. They said they could add-on to that, though. They told us if we had people we still weren't sure about, we should not include them in the final headcount in the event they don't come -- but if they did come, we can just pay for them the day of.

we were under our guarenteed, and even had 3 people as no shows the day of. It stinks, but you can't do anything about it. I just rolled with it.

It's always safe to low-ball your final count, but make sure it's at least you're minimum.

For instance, if you have 160 Yes then I would tell them 150. You pay for 150, then if all 160 show up, on the day of the wedding you'll pay for the extra 10.

But if you tell them 160 then you pay for 160, if only 150 show up they don't refund you your money.

If you can pay the minimum and low ball your count and prepare to pay extra on the day.

I've heard this advice by almost every bride I have spoken to. It is almost guaranteed that people won't show up at the last minute.

You have to be careful though. If you lowball by 10 (or a large number) the catering hall is going to be scrambling to find chairs, linens, place settings etc. What I did was pay the banquet manager for a set number, then met with my maitre'd and gave him the seating arrangements for everyone who RSVP'd plus people who didn't RSVP that I thought would show and some others. That way, when I had people show up the day of that weren't paid for, they had a seat and didn't have to stand around while the staff went looking for stuff, nor did anyone bother me about where to seat them.

They will definately not give you back any money if there are no-shows and you already paid. For this reason we underpaid by 4 people. I am really glad we did too because we had 3 no-shows. (We fully intended to pay for them on the day of the wedding pending everyone's arrival. My dad actually carried the money in cash to the hall to pay for them. We knew there are always no-shows though.)

I'll see what our headcount is at the end.

I think I'll make 5 people (a few OOT and 1 unreliable person) maybes and not pay for them until the day of the wedding.

I know if ure under some places will start counting ure vendors and children...so at least u don't feel SO bad about losing money. If there is extra, u pay for them. I know Flowerfield does pack up all the meals u pay for it they don't show up, so at least u get the food!

You pay for what your total is so if you have guaranteed 150 and you have given them 145 then you still need to pay for 5 plates anyway, but in that case, you can apply it towards the vendors Im sure, even though usually there cost is 1/2 off.
If you have someone show up without an invite or something, I would send them home, sorry, but thats me, but you would need to have the entire table reset, its a pain, it happened at our formal coed shower, my bosses wife showed up with a friend, unbeleivable, so we had to run and pay for her and the entire seating and table look was ruined......uhg, hopefully you wont have that.

I am planning on doing this, too. There were five no-shows to my little brother's bar mitzvah, and my parents were stuck paying for them. So we're taing our cue from that!
