I'm afraid i may not be able to make the minimum. what should i do? should i just invite random people i don't know very well like co-workers and family friends? or should I see if my RH will be able to throw things in? or, please give me other options. Thanks!

Re: what happens when you don't meet your RH minimum?
how far off from your minimum are you? If it's by about 5 or 6 people, ask the RH to give you those 5 or 6 dinner entres to take home.
If it's off by about 10-12 (basically 1 table's worth), you may want to invite some other people (like people from LIWeddings.com!!)
If you're off by more than 1 table's worth, you should try to renegotiate with your RH to throw things in and upgrade some stuff.

ask your RH to throw things in...i'd rather be short on my minimum than have people i'm not really close too at my wedding...but that's just my opinion and its really something you have to sit down with your FH and discuss

also, don't forget that if you don't reach your minimum, kids count as full-price rather than half-price, and you can ask that vendors also be counted as full-price.

Does the RH usually throw things in? And if so, what could you ask for?

You can upgrade to more desserts, like a Viennese hour or a chocolate fountain if you don't already have one. Or, you can add more carving stations to the cocktail hour. Or add more dinner entres if that's an option.

i dont know if the RH would throw things in, since you agreed to meet a minimum and youre the one not able to meet it, not the RH. therefore i would imagine the last thing they would do is throw things in for free.
i could be wrong, but that doesnt make sense to me
i would call though and try to renogiate the terms. they may be able to lower the minimum for you, but i wouldnt really count on it... to the rh its all about making the most money they can. they might hold you to the contract and have you pay for those people whether they are there or not

My SIL couldn't meet her minimum for her son's baptism reception at the Sandcastle, and the RH threw more things in...it actually is a fairly common thing.

If your missing a table worth of people then ask for extras, b/c if u just start inviting people and if they don't show up u will have an empty table and I would be mad. I went to a wedding in December and the bride was inviting co-workers to make up the numbers and there were 2 empty tables and my table had 3 empty seats. Now those are seats that she payed for and got nothing in return. Good Luck. WHose your BM @ JT I heard the GM is really nice so try talking to him.

If you are below your minimum, the hall will count kids & vendors at full price before figuring out how much below your minimum you are.
If you're still below your # at that point, they may be willing to wrap the dinners or throw something in.

That did not happen to me. They did not count my vendors as the same price. I did get my DOC to get like 5 plates off the price b/c I was over by almost 20 for a family emergency. Halls don't usually do anything for you about extras I have learned . ..I would try to invite some people you have got close with later to fill the seats. Maybe even Mom or Dad's friends?

The policy varies from RH to RH. But, in most (not all) cases, the RH will count the vendors at full price. Your best bet is to contact your RH and ask what their policy is.

Re: what happens when you don't meet your RH minimum?
Hey guys,
If any of you brides are reading this and have weddings coming up in Oct/Nov and December and don't meet your minimums, I'd be happy to go to your wedding! FH and I haven't gone to a many weddings but now that are we are planning out own, we'd be happy to help another bride out feel free to FM me if you're in that boat - I may be too as well next year given some of the RH minimums I've been quoted!
