What I learned so far
I know every baby and mom is different, but I copied this from my baby board about what I would/wouldn't buy or use next time around:
Clothing No-no's:
Undershirts/onesies that go over head; caps and bootie sets (way too many, first they were too big, then it was too hot anyway); gifts from others as a lesson for me when buying gifts: summer styles in size 6-9 are too big now and will be no use next summer; less of unisex colors since we didn't know the sex I bought too many and then didn't want to dress Lyla in so much yellow in green
Miscellaneous No-no's:
Arms reach cosleeper ($160): great invention, but just didn't work for us. It wasn't as easy as just reaching over to pick her up, it's more awkward than that, especially as she gets heavier. I was too lazy to nurse in bed and put her back, since I'd often fall asleep she'd just stay in our bed. I would have gotten a bassinet. I also had to scoot to the bottom of the bed to get out of bed. Maybe it will work for the next.
Too many size 1 diapers; boppy; sling; too many bottles (washed all nipples and bottles before trying one out); small rec'g blankets
Stuff I'd get more of/keep for next time:
Graco infant car seat; snap-n-go; nursery furniture, swing, kick-n-play, bathtub, jungle gym, glider, crib mobile, tons of bibs and washclothes, towels, sleeper pajamas in 0-3, nail clippers, lullabye cds, baby einstein video, and toys all working out so far.
