My friend was telling me a story about her brothers wedding. He had 4 or 5 people who went to the wedding that did not give a gift of any sort. What do you do if this happens? I mean do you send a Thank You card and if so, what do you write in it.
BTW, the wedding cost in the range of $100,000.

Thats so rude....I know that your wedding is not a fun raiser but I mean come on. I probably would not send a thank you...or I'd send one that just said Thank you for sharing our specail day!

If it happens I don't think I would send them a Thank You card....I mean I can understand if you're broke in that case you reply NO to the wedding or you give at least something......(come on at least $50) XOXOXO Kitty

I have heard this before. Believe it or not my friends got married in Nov and this happened to them. They also had one guess who gave a check but it bounced. They had to pay the bounced check fee and everyhthing. The person never even said anything to them.

Re: What If......
My cousin got married last August and she stated a couple of people came and bought nothing and then some couples gave like 25 dollars. One person gave 10 bucks. A bit tacky if you ask me...

The bounce check is so tacky and that happen to my cousin. Our uncle told her not to cash the check until he calls her and tells her to do so. Lets just say he never called. It is now May 06, she got married August 05.

It's hard not to get upset since what is important is to have those who you love there to share your special day, but unfortunately this special day is not cheap!

This happened to my brother too. It is not mandatory for guests to give gifts. I think monetary gifts are expected, but money is not always given. Out of town guests do not realize how much it costs to have a NY wedding. I have family from OOT and they were very surprised to hear how expensive it can be.

Well that is the hard part. I don't want to sound as if I am money hungry or greedy, but me and FH are spending a lot of money to have our friends and family there. I know some of them do not have much money but we registered for everything and not everything is expensive.
It is so touchy because I want everybody to come because they are special to me. FH went through the list and said 'I am buying him anexpensive dinner.' Meaning he expects very little, if anything from some people.
It is such a touchy thing.

Re: What If......
while i agree its rude for someone to not bring a gift to a wedding...you have to be the bigger person and in the thank you card just simply thank them for attending...you can't force people to give you gifts...that's not what the day is about anyway..but its still rude for them not to give one

i have to agree. i would just send one anyway. hopefully they would at least give you a card. but also out of state people def. dont realize how much it costs.....and it may not be unusual for them to give $20 at a wedding.

Re: What If......
I personally wouldn't send a thank you card, only b/c if I did, it would be an obnoxious thank you. 'thanks for coming to my expensive wedding, eating all the food, drinking all the liquor, and dancing the night away.'
