What if something happened to your photographer . . .
Like the day before or day of your wedding?
I mean, I'm thinking of hiring an individual photojournalist, rather than someone from a big photography company, but now I'm thinking, just what would I do if something happens to him right before my wedding?
Who would take our pics???
Anyone else have thoughts like this?

Yes, thats one of the reasons why I felt more comfortable with having two photographers and an established studio.
I know someone whos photographer called the bride the morning of to tell her that he was SICK!!! She didnt get any professional shots at her wedding. So sad.

Does this guy have a solid reputation? (as in he has been doing weddings for a long time?) If so, he would probably never call out sick or not show up for any reason aside from death b/c it is his livelyhood and he would ruin his reputation. But if he is more of a new guy or doesnt usually do weddings, I think its a risk.
Maybe you can ask him what happens if there is a problem and he can't be there. He may have friends who can back up for him in the worse case scenarios.

Yikes, I'm leaning toward the same type of photographer and never thought of that. Uh-oh....thanks for posting that!

My photog is the only one and I feel fine! In the contract it states that if something happens he will replace himself with a qualified photog. The photog that covers for him in the event of an emergency is a friend of his and this guy is just as good if not better. I would have booked him but he's like $7000 just to shoot the wedding! He would have to be on his death bed to miss a booking so I'm confident. I would just have them put something in the contract!

My sister got married about 4 years ago. She boo0ked with a big company (wont mention names) and the photographer cancelled two days before. They wound up getting a different photographer from the company but they weren't too happy about the situation.

Yup, me too! Our photographer owns his company, but it is very small. It states in our contract that we will have a replacement should something happen.

I am using an individual photojournalist and she will send someone in the event that she cannot make it. I am ok with this. I trust that she would not send someone who was incompetent. Maybe I am being naive, but I guess it's the chance I am taking.

Many individual photographers have backups, mine does. I would just have him put it in your contract that 'in the event that he can't make it due to illness, that they will provide a replacement photographer with equal experience.'
