I fell in love with the place we are having our wedding but know we will not meet our minimum.
What have other brides done in this situation? I know I can pay full price for my vendors. But has anyone else bargained with their venue about getting some extras?

I have heard of some places adding in extras that are usually paid for (i.e. ice sculpture or something extra to eat) - but it probably depends on the place and the BM that you're dealing with. But it never hurts to ask! You can also arrange to take home the meals that you pay for but no one eats.

we were 20 below ours and u still have to pay no matter what for their minimum, so we sent some people home with plates. we paid for them anyway

One word: negotiate!!!! We negotiated as we were 25 under our minimum. I'm so glad we brought it up to the hall. Every hall is different, so ask. You can ask for an extra hour (but then you need to pay for OT for your DJ or band, remember that), or ask for extras like an extra CH station, chair covers, vienese hour, etc. Ask for everything you can and see what they do.

Re: What if you don't meet your minimum?
I knew someone who wasn't meeting their minimun and they invited people (my FH family) 3 weeks before the wedding!!! and they hand wrote the envelope in scribble. How rude. But I think a more appropriate way of handling this would be to ask to add things such as an extra carving station or ice sculptures or even chair covers. Good luck!!!

My hall wouldn't add anything, they just raised the price per head since we were under by 25. the increase in price wasn't that much.

I didn't know they might negotiate on extras, that's pretty cool in that kind of a situation.
I once got invited to a wedding just a two weeks before because they couldn't make their minimum. Thing was, we all worked together in a volunteer organization and they invited a bunch of people on the 'A' list. So the 'B' list people knew full well that we were only being invited so they didn't lose money. Most of us declined on principle and because we didn't like them in the first place.

one of the reasons we picked our place was because they gave such a low min (90 pp) we were a little below and they worked with us on it Before booking I would ask them if they will throw in extras or will you just have to pay for the min
