What is a general estimation for certain vendors/halls?

Hello all and congrats on your engagement! Ok, so my fiance and I decided to wait until 2011 so we can try to get a handle on the money situation instead of eating ramen noodles for the rest of our lives!

Sooo, I was wondering, how the hell do I know that when we are shopping around that we are getting general ballpark figures rather than wasting our time w/ someone and getting ripped off? I know usually things are added in as 'just another thousand' but how do I know when it's really worth it or BS?

Thank you ladies!

Definitely Long Island...I am Italian and my fiance is Irish so obviously food and drink are necessary issues...I mainly don't want to look like a naive little bride when I go check things out...ok here are a few more specific questions...

What is usually the difference in price pp btwn fri night, sat night and sunday weddings? Do vendors give cheaper prices depending on the day also or are they straight-up prices?

What is offseason?

Does anybody actually know of places cutting back on prices due to the economy?

I know dj's are much less expensive than bands but what is a basic range for no hand outs or dancers, just a great party?

Flowers? eeeek...

limos?

Ok so the difference betwn a fri/sun and sat is huge!!! it could be 90 on a fri but 180 on a sat...not all are this drastic but you def save more!

off season: at different places its different...some say nov-apr...some say jan-march...

i dont know if places are cutting back on prices as much as they are throwing more things in...

djs-flowers-limos...it reallllllyyyy depends on what you need...flowers will be less if you do low cp as opposed to high....

limos depend on how many you need....

and djs i am unsure of bec we booked a band
vendors will normally give a higher base price and then you can try to negociate a bit..

Yes..prices vary A LOT based on what you want, and what night the wedding is. We found an about 25-30 dollar per plate difference between Friday and Saturday nights. In terms of prices, I also agree that I don't think RH's are slashing prices but I do think you will get more for your buck these days. They will throw in anything from an ice sculpture to a martini bar, to surf and turf on your dinner menu. It doesn't hurt to ask. I do have some Spring 2011 quotes for Jericho Terrace (you can FM me for exact quotes). I can tell you that Floral Terrace was more expensive, Chateau Briand was a bit less expensive, and Sandcastle was WAY more expensive at first (they called me a few weeks after that and lowered the price A LOT). Those were the RH's we checked out.

We also got a pretty middle of the line photo and video package in the mid 4K range, which we thought was fair.

The DJ packages start about 700-900 and go all the way to about 5,500. we checked out two DJ companies and their prices were comparable.

In terms of those full service wedding companies that do dj, flowers, invites, limos, and everything else. They definitely do save you money, but I did hear that you receive basically what you pay for. It probably won't be top notch quality.

Congrats on your engagement!!!

Thank you all very much for your info, definitely helped quite a bit!! As long as I have these basics, I feel I have a beginners price to work with. Thanks again and I'll keep you all posted if I find any hot screaming deals out there

Re: What is a general estimation for certain vendors/halls?

Honestly, I really don't like dark rooms w/ low ceilings.

I want great food, a room that doesn't have old ugly plaid curtains on the wall, def big and open. For example, no 'L' shaped rooms, that drives me crazy when people have like 3 tables 'around the corner' and they miss half the party.

And to be honest I really don't want the run of the mill wedding in general. I'm like the last of my girlfriends to tie the knot so I feel like I don't want my guests to leave and tell their coworkers on Mon, 'it was ok, it was a wedding.'

I don't know, I have a lot of homework to do.
