What is a good cut off age for children attending Wedding respetion?
I have a large family, many of them have young children. Should I leave the decision up to the parents, if they want to bring them?

The decision is yours. Make a firm decision and stick to it.
I took a look at my list, decided which kids I would want there and which I didn't, and luckily it worked out that children over 10 years old were ok, and younger than that were not.

That's my problem - tons of kids. I'm the oldest of almost 30 grandchildren. Since they are my first cousins, and I can't imagine not having them at my wedding, I'm inviting them all. But, I wouldn't oppose to parents leaving them home. Are you have a day or night wedding? It's more likely parents will leave them home at night, so they can party.

We did 12 years old and older. We picked 12 because DH's nephews were both 12 and my cousin was 12...so it was a good age.
People were thankful they didnt have to watch their small children.
We also put 'adult reception to follow' in our invitations.

I did 18 and older..I have 43 first cousins..plenty of them are in my age group, so my cousins were definately represented. A ton of my aunts had a problem with this, but in the long run I think all of the parents had a good time without their kids. They were all at my shower though (the girls), that was a taste as too what chaos would happen at my wedding if they were invited. there was also a different vibe at my wedding, with the kids there I felt it would have been another communion party

I am inviting only those 18 and over. Except the FG and RB. We have alot of younger second cousins. We just can't invite everyone!!

Some people opt to put 'adult reception to follow' somewhere on the invitation or response card. If the wedding is at night, you may wish to have them stay for the cocktail hour and arrange for the parents to have a baby sitter to take them home. You want your adult guests to have a good time. Worrying about chasing little ones around, doesn ot sound like fun. If your party is in the afternoon, perhaps they can have a table of their own with little activities to keep them busy. Also remember that you have to pay for the children. some halls offer discounts for little ones, but others don't. Do what is within your budget.

We're going to do 18 and older. We kind of spread the word that we'd be doing that to get some reactions and most of our cousins are happy to have a night out with their kids.

I also lots of first cousins, 43 to be exact. We are only inviting 18 and older, however one of my uncles live in Georgia and they are flying in the whole family so they will be bring their kids under 18. I don't think it is right that the whole family has to come to NY and their kids are left home. They are the exception.

I'm having a HUGE issue with this. FH and I would only like the kids in the BP at the reception, there are 5. We both agree on that so that's good. However, my cousins from California are coming to the wedding. They are all older than me and the last time I saw them I was 3, when we went to CA to visit them. I'm so excited that they are coming the only problem is that there are 7 children between the three of them. The 'twins' will be 3 1/2 months old at the time of the wedding. My dad thinks we should make an exception for them but we can't have some and not the others. BTW- why would you even want to bring twin 3 month olds to a wedding reception? This is causing me so much grief I hate even thinking about it. Oh yea, and I was not invited to any of there weddings.

I was in this situation a couple of months ago. We also have many people traveling far distances, so it did cause some grief, but I think people are over now (hopefully) We are just having 18 and up, except for the children IN the bridal party, which there are 6. Otherwise, we would have had to add another 20-30 kids to the guest list!
Whatever you decide, just make a decision and stick to it!
