Re: What is a trunk show?
A trunk show is when a particular designer's gowns are showcased at a bridal salon. Usually, you can buy samples at a discount and usually, the gowns are on sale for around 10% off or more (depending on the designer).
I got my gown at a St. Pucchi Trunk Show at Bridal Reflections in Carle Place (AKA Trunk Sale -- same thing) and I got a discount for buying a gown that I tried on during the show.
It's basically an incentive for brides to check out and try on gowns by a particular designer (many times gowns you will NEVER see in the salons otherwise). There is sometimes pressure to make a decision that night in order to get the deal that is being offered, so be prepared for that. And also, be sure to make an appointment when there is a Trunk Show going on.
ETA: It's not like a fashion show with a runway and models, etc. They just bring in most or all of a designer's gown for brides to see.

Re: What is a trunk show?
To add more info to Jimmysbride's perfect answer, a trunk show was derived from the days that designers would literally bring a trunk of dresses to the salons. If you are lucky, the designer might be there for a trunk show and may offer to make special alterations just for you. I know this happens often at Kleinfelds. Good Luck!!
